I see you refer to this lens time & time again, this would be considered a walk around lens?? What Canon lens would be similar and the price difference, :confused3

Who else has this lens and do you like it?

Thank you

I got it for my Pentax *ist DL. It's a great walk-around -- I keep it on all the time -- and not much bigger, really, than my 18-55 kit lens.

I'm not that sophisticated on the workings of lenses and such, but this does the job for me, very capably, and I'm satisfied.

The size is a big factor for me. My sister has a Pentax film SLR, and has something like a 70-300 lens she keeps on all the time, and that thing is a MONSTER. Forget THAT! My little Sigma is fine, thank you. :thumbsup2

there is no Canon equivalent for the time being. The estimated release date for a Canon equivalent (at more than double the price) is around November 2006.

I have it, and like Greg K - it's on my camera 90% of the time. The range is perfect for a walk around, and I can't complain about the quality.

We just got a new Pentax ist*DL (arrived on Friday) and we got to play with it a little over the weekend. On the recommendation of Kelly and Greg and others we opted to not get the kit lens, but instead ordered the Sigma 18-125 separately. It seems to be a great walking around lens. We had a birthday party for my DW on Saturday and while I only used it in Auto Picture mode, I tried to take a variety of wide angle and zoom shots and everything in between just to see what the camera and lens would do, we were pleased with the results. I think for the money it is a great option for a good quality walk around lens that won’t break the bank. I got a good deal on ours from www.sigma4less.com – received it in four days and was the lowest price I could find online.

The Canon 28-135 is probably the closest thing that they have that is close in range and price. Some will say that the 28mm is not wide enough, but I took it as my main lense to DL in April and loved it. It does cost more than the Sigma but it also has Image Stabilization, which is very nice.

I have one also (based partly on Kelly's evaluation and partly on my excelent prior Sigma experience). I love the lens - it's much smaller and lighter than my old Sigma 28-200, takes very sharp pics, and focuses fast. It is a bit noisier than other Sigma lenses or Canon lenses when focusing.

I haven't been to WDW since I bought the 18-125, and I'm really eager to get there and try it out!
