*sigh* things have changed so much around here

I think the feel is much less friendly. Seems to me that I could disagree or agree with people before and not be called a mob or a minion.
I wonder, to what extent, folks are normalizing their perspective in this regard with respect to their interactions in society-in-general. (Okay, maybe I haven't gotten dumber. :rotfl2:)

What I mean is that: How have your interactions here on the DIS changed, as compared to how your interactions have changed with people on the road, in supermarkets, at work, around your neighborhood, etc.? As far as I'm concerned, things have remained far far friendlier here on the DIS than as compared to online-in-general, and far far friendlier here on the DIS than as compared to society-in-general.

Or maybe you bought a new thesaurus? ;)

Or maybe with so many people gone and some who have returned with new user names, interaction with new friends is just different than the same ol' crowd. I've never felt like I "fit in" here.

There was a day (long ago) when the board was smaller and less people to get to know so it was easier. Plus, no one had really been banned (much) so to try to figure out who they were when they returned wasn't really happening then. Now when newer join dates are seen (May 2008, June 2008) we almost always go "hmm...???" when the first posts are on the CB. Not always true but very common.

Anytime you are "forced" to make new freinds or just post and feel like someone is listening to your post, it can feel odd. But trust me, you get used to it. :lmao:

BTW, Mr. Murphy, love the pic. If it had not been for Sonya, we'd have never tried a Kaki Gori and it is my DD's favorite Epcot treat!

I don't think it has changed that much. Some times I come here and find a lot of threads that interest me, other times not many. But than I don't belong to any of the clique threads, they just move to fast for me.

I don't think all the best people are gone, maybe funny ones, but there are still some really great posters here.

I guess the CB can be whatever you want it to be. Maybe nothing goes on Sat. nights because it is summer and people are out having fun instead of sitting in front of their computers.
ITA with your post.

I have started to find myself spending less time on the DISboards as they've become less of a magical place to be. :(
I've been spending less time on the DIS too, not because I don't like it any less, but my trip is already all planned, and I've been addicted to Facebook since I got back from the shore.

Because the DIS is full of a lot of stuff I like and a lot of stuff I don't. If I stick to following the rules here, why should it matter what I say to someone away from here?
I disagree. I'm pretty sure I know which site you're referring to, and I think that if one goes to that site just to talk about people from this site, that it will matter what is said.

Wow, that's pretty insulting. I guess the people that are left are just deadbeats.

I for one have never noticed any difference in the DIS and would have known nothing about what happened except for people posting about it. But then, I come and go because I get busy with "real" life and don't rely on the DIS for friendships or social interaction. It's interesting and entertaining and I love the true Disney Boards...the restaurant, resort and theme park boards. As it gets closer to my trip, I love to read trip reports, etc. I think the Community is just fine with all the worst/boring people who are left.

I think the people that have been here years with thousands of posts probably can see the difference more then you or I. The change isn't as obvious on the "true" Disney boards as it is on the CB which is where many of these people spent the majority of their time.

"Discussing" posts isn't the word for it. Ridiculing, criticizing and badmouthing posters who post on the DIS CB and BB is a more apt phrase. Some try to spin it as harmless, but it's not harmless to the people it's being done to. Hence the bannings, hence the explanation.

Like I said before, these things are cyclical. The DIS will be back to normal probably around the time the kids go back to school.

This is the nature of the internet whether we like it or not. I've never known any message board that didn't have some sort of "anti" board.

If you don't want someone to ridicule what you post.... don't post it. It's that simple.

MO, I think a lot of the fun is missing because many of us are afraid to post something silly, or trivial, or fun, because it may be taken the wrong way. Many times I've deleted something because I was afraid someone would think I was being sarcastic or would get offended, and that was NOT my intention at all.

I agree with this 100% There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to some of the bannings. It's left the rest of us more then a bit paranoid about posting. That's impacted the board as much as the 100+ people that are gone.

Wow over 6000 views for a thread with only 130 posts. Seems to be generating a good bit of interest from somewhere...

Anyone else taking bets on how long until this one goes "poof"?

There was a Dis purge in 2001 and 2004 (I was part of that one:lmao: )...people come and go around here all the time...I miss some of the banned posters also but this place is what you make it...to me it's a relaxing outlet.

I have thousands of posts, and I'm on the CB a lot, but like I said, I don't see a difference, there are still group threads, still fluff threads, still political threads, etc.

I beg to differ and I'm sorry but alot of your posts are either trying to explain yourself or post something that in MY PERSONAL OPINION belongs on a blog or in a diary. I don't think you can compare yourself to people who have been here for years and have thousands of posts.

As someone who didn't post alot but has been here for many years I too see a differance that is sad. I think most of the posts are boring now AGAIN MY PERSONAL OPINION and I think some people feel like they will be sensored for everything they say.

I am going to hope I don't get points for stating MY PERSONAL OPINION but unfortunately some people have very thin skin now and it requires the moderators to be working double time.

.

Really? Hmph... so like you shouldnt leave your house, in case someone may ridicule you? Interesting ....

Much of the ridiculing (wonderful word, BTW - ridicule another human being - nice!) was less of what was posted, but more of personal attacks on posters.

I, for one, thought we were all adults. To think it's enteratinment to 'ridicule' another human being, a fellow poster on a board pertaining to something you both have in common, is pretty freaking sad.

It's that simple? Please.... who made any of the 'ridiculers' God??

Too funny.

Why should anyone be ridiculing ANYONE? Why is that even necessary? Aren't we all human? Aren't the majority of us adults? Would we want our children walking around ridiculing people just because they don't like them, or don't agree with what they say? It's very bizarre to watch grown people ripping others to shreds. ESPECIALLY when it gets to the point of making fun of their appearance. I didn't realize I was posting amongst so many Supermodels and Gods.:confused3

Do you ever read tabloids? I don't believe all that is written but I still see them or internet sites. And those are people we know. Its easier when you don't know them unfortunately . Its the age we live in now where technology allows you to be anonymous and (some people) feel free to state their opinions. It used to be great when we had the debate forum. You automatically knew if you entered you better have alot of layers of skin.

:sad2:

Should we expect to have pictures taken of ourselves while on vacation as well? Like tabloids do??? Since we put ourselves out there, and everything.

Well, if nothing else, Im thought of as a celebrity, of sorts. :goodvibes
