Side Dishes

We don't do anything special, we have:

baked potatoes
seven layer salad
corn or green bean casserole
and rolls

We are very simple people :flower:

I like to make cheesy potatoes and a green veggie like green beans and brocoli.

DH and I had ham for Christmas dinner and this is what I made with it: mashed potatoes & gravy, green bean casserole, baked beans, and (ick) Stove Top Stuffing. I usually make homemade stuffing with turkey and I had no plans for stuffing with dinner but DH really wanted some. Luckily, I had a couple of boxes of Stove Top in the pantry (dd loves it) so I made that for him. My dad would be rolling in his grave if he hadn't been cremated. :teeth: He taught me how to make stuffing and he was VERY particular about it.

I have a tortellini salad recipe that goes nicely with ham.

DD insisted on potatoes. I could do potatoe salad though.
We sometimes have corn or green bean casserole.
Rolls.
Sometimes macaroni salad.

I would definitely do cheesy potatoes. DH would love baked beans (with anything) MMMMM....how about a fruit salad?

We had ham on Christmas Day and I served Cheesy Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, fresh carrots and rolls.

For dessert, we had Chocolate Lava Cakes -- they were FANTASTIC. My husband was very impressed.

Wow, everything sounds so good. I was thinking about scalloped potatoes and green beans. But now I'm not sure... So many choices!

My pick would be scalloped potatoes and fried apples. I'd probably have some kind of veggie too, or a salad.

My mom made this for Christmas dinner and it was SOOOOOO flippin good!

Veggie Casserole

1 - 16 oz. Bag frozen vegetables. ( with corn and carrots, etc.)
¼ lb. Velveeta cheese, cubed
1 stick butter or margarine, melted
1 tube of Ritz crackers

Cook and drain veggies
Soak crushed Ritz crackers in melted butter
Cut cheese in cubes
Layer veggies, cheese and cracker mix
Bake at 350 degrees till bubbly…..more than a half hour.

Or,

Put it in the crockpot for several hours.

When making it for a large group, put in 3 packages of veggies and double all other ingredients.

What, no sweet potatoes? No cornbread? no collard greens? Ya'll must not be from the South, poor thang ;)

Growing up, ham always meant candied sweet potato, green beans and rolls. Leftovers were always chunked into Au Gratin potatoes or chunked pineapple.

Now, ham isn't a meal without asparagus and homemade macs and cheese.

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese is good with ham too! :goodvibes

That is what we make too! I finally found a good homemade mac and cheese recipe from the Betty Crocker cookbook- I use sharp cheddar and double the amount of mustard powder. Mmmmm!!! Green bean casserole is also a good side dish.

well for Christmas ham dinner it was peas, macaroni cheese casserole, sweet potatoes, corn pudding,7layer salad and dressing.

As far as "normal" ham dinner meals I usualyl have potato salad & peas or green beans...tonight we're having ham again @ my mom's & it'll be the mac cass & pot salad & green bean casserole....
