Sick of the upper class bashing

Subsidized are based on need. Pretty much anyone is eligible for an unsubidized one.

Yup :thumbsup2

Oh and the lovely free military education for our veterans? We're still paying the loans on DH's education and he still needs to finish his B.S. The GI Bill covered about half.

I have absolutely no problem with ANY benefits that military folks gain from their service. In all honesty, I think that the sacrifices that they make for this country are not even close to properly compensated. I find it reprehensible that many enlisted make so little that they qualify for food stamps.

I'd rather take the money that we give out willy nilly to people to help buy first homes through various programs when they've done nothing to earn it, and instead use that in conjunction with VA loans to make home ownership in particularly expensive areas possible for military folks. JMHO.

Not to be rude but are you kidding? So, all those "unfortunate" people (lots of whom abuse this gift they have been given) should just get the money but I should join the military? How about THEY join the military too instead of just getting the hand out?

I did join the military and finished my degree at the University of the Philippines because my parents would no longer pay for college after I dropped out of LSU.

I am glad I joined and joined for other reasons not due to college.

There were a lot of people who joined the different branches of service to be able to go to college and would be surprised at the numbers of active duty who were also students.

Off topic, but I always thought that McMansion referred specifically to the extra large homes that crop up in neighborhoods of smaller homes.

I guess that is incorrect.

Nice shot there at the end.

Beyond that you obviously have no idea so it would be best to stop trying to guess.

I honestly meant to put one of these guys at the end. ;) I knew that was a little harsh. I'd just finished a final and those make me more than a tad punchy.

I had a snappy response to your last comment, but I'll keep it to myself since you don't appreciate my poor attempts at humor anyway. :)

I'm assuming you are talking about my saying I was going to rent an expensive car when we are in Hawaii. I stated the daily cost only to put it in perspective with Dawn's comment about not wanting to leave a nice resort. You have decided to take it out of context.

As far as a "ridiculously inflated price to rent a pretentious car," don't you think everyone who visits WDW isn't paying a ridiculously inflated price for their vacation? I don't see the problem with wanting to rent a special car for a special trip. It's no different than someone who spends a ton of money to swim with dolphins, take a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, or spend their entire vacation gambling in Vegas. It's an experience, something we want to do, and I don't understand why you find it so utterly offensive.

To each their own--I want to rent a "ridiculously inflated price to rent a pretentious car." What does it matter to you? Do I criticize those who choose to go to a State Park with their tent for vacation? Of course not! If that's what they enjoy, then I'm REALLY happy for them. It's not my cup of tea, but then again what is my cup of tea is not other peoples.

Your comment "ridiculously inflated price to rent a pretentious car" is EXACTLY what this thread is about. You sure seem to be doing PLENTY of judging and bashing.

Oh, wth... I don't have any points right now.:lmao:

Yes, Ducklite, I am referring to you. It isn't just this one time. It's a chronic condition with you. You always find a way to let everybody know exactly how wealthy and clever you are - either through innuendo or outright bragging. Why not just say you're going to rent a sports car? No, you have to say "I'm spending $600 per day to rent a Rolls Royce (or whatever)." Nobody cares except YOU. If you and Dawn want to compare prices, PM each other and stick with general statements on the public posts. If not, then be prepared for people to judge you.

Like I said, I don't know why you've got your panties in a twist about it. If you don't like my posts, then why do you bother to read them? I'm not wealthy, never said I was. I'm not the one on a thread showing off my expensive designer handbags (don't have one, use one I bought on sale at Kohl's two years ago). I'm not driving a $40K+ SUV, Lexus, etc. I drive a Saturn. I seldom talk about how much I spend on anything, unless I'm sharing a good deal I found. You obviously have some deep rooted issue with me, although I don't know what on earth I ever did to you, and perhaps you'd be best to just put me on ignore from now on.

Must be that "have a happy period" commercial I saw this morning. It's got me all out of sorts.

i am rich, i make a ton of money at what i do, and i feel great about it.

Actually, you make this point quite often, sometimes directly, and other times in more subtle ways.

To most readers, it's the pretentiousness and arrogance with which you carry yourself. You certainly do come across as bragging about money and material things, in everything I've ever read by you where the subject is brought up.

To relate this to the OP, it's not the upper class that people are bashing, just those few that flaunt their position or wealth, rubbing others faces in it. It just seems like a classless thing to do.

I think it is apparent that sometims it's not so much WHAT you say as it is HOW you say it. Anyway, just some food for thought. And if a number of people feel this way, then maybe it's time to take a look at yourself.

I guess if bragging means I talk about carrying a sale priced handbag from Kohl's or driving a Saturn, then I'm bragging. :confused3 I've seen a lot of people "brag" a about their expensive home renovations and expensive designer shoes and handbags, why not go find some of them and flame them. :confused3 Or would that hit too close to home?

It's actually a very small number of people with a high school clique mentality that obviously have nothing better to do with their lives.

Talking about your exclusive golf course community, your McMansion, your exclusive sports car, renting "Lambo's", staying in $1200 a night hotels, and on and on. Coupled with the way you talk down to various people, their communities, their choices, and on and on..

Like MJ said, it's more often not what you say, it's how you say it, the delivery. I'm surprised you can't see it.

And no, not hitting close to home. I did buy a new pair of Reebok running shoes at the outlet mall last year though!

Wasn't there something about the Saturn being ultra-exclusive-hoity-toity-first-edition or somthing like that? Or do I have you confused with somebody else?

No, I remember the Saturn thread, too, and you're right.

Ducklite, I kind of have to agree with what people are saying here. I also think Miss Jasmine is making a good point, and I honestly don't think it should be automatically written off as "high school clique" mentality.

I think this was in reference to me. I have posted on the Coach girlies thread and I recently made some home renovations (and have posted on the remodeling thread). Heaven forbid I reinvested in one of my family's investments.

OK - I must not be rich because I have no clue what a Lambo is.:rotfl2:

As for the McMansion's being over 3000 sq ft, then over 1/2 the city lives in one. I think that is a silly number.
