Anybody have a sick kid home today? Want to commiserate?

Sheesh, I'm beginning to think HS should be called Sick School. I don't think DD ever missed as much as she has the past couple of years, and now with this flu season...*sigh*. She got up early to finish some work and was feeling pretty ok, but then seriously *wasn't* (no TMI here) and crawled back into bed and is sleeping now.

She hates to miss school.

I hope your daughter feels better. The flu is nasty around here. I know alot of parents that had their kids out of school.

I've felt pretty crappy myself for the last week or so. I don't know if it's my allergies or something else. Hopefully things will settle down for some rest.

My dd is a freshman in college in the dorms. They are passing around the flu, mono, colds, and strep like it is going out of style.

I came home from school yesterday and slept for 6 hours and then slept all night. My mom is keeping me home today again. I feel much better (I'm not sure if it was the flu or what) but I'm not all the way back to normal. There has been many kids out of school sick lately so I'm not suprised I finally caught something. I started feeling sick Monday and then woke up Tuesday feeling horrible. I hate missing school too.

DD (18) was home all last week with H1N1. DS (16) was home one day last week and now is home today. He just feels lousy.

The twins (18) were also home last week for a couple of days.

I think their school is just a breeding ground for germs.

I'll commiserate. DD12 was home all last week with (suspected--no test) H1N1. She felt pretty good Saturday and fine Sunday and yesterday (at school). All the symptoems came back mid mirning at school today (but slightly less severe) and she is home again. It is everywhere here! Doctor's office is clsoed becuase the entire staff has it, DS10 is comming home 2 hours early having just had the last of the only 3 of 9 classes there were teachers for today. It is crazy.

It's just that last year she had a mono-variant early on (in October, came down with it in the middle of the PSAT, said towards the end - in the middle of the last section - she just started blindly filling in answers) and then caught Influenza B in the spring, missed two solid weeks plus many days she just couldn't get up in time. I think I had the Attendance Office on Speed-Dial. This year has been much better, but still... Like Mystery Machine said, the kids have been passing around everything like it is going out of style, this flu season has been BRUTAL. I don't think in her case it's one of the flus, she has no fever, hasn't thrown up, has no ache-y joints. "Just" a virus I suppose. She did say before she fell back asleep that she thinks this is the last of the cold she's had for the past week. I sure hope so.

I just don't want the Attendance folks to think she's a quitter or lazy or that I call her in just because she wants to stay home and watch the soaps (if any of that makes sense). They might start making us bring in Doctor's excuses, kwim?

So glad I did not have to live in a Drom I went from living with my mom and dad to living in a apartment. It alsos saves the steess of were I am going to live after graduation.

DS14 hasn't been to school since a week ago Monday. He can't get the fever to go away. Did his round of flu meds and he isn't rocking the 103-104 temp any more, but we can't get it lower than 99. The racking cough started saturday night and the over the counter meds aren't touching it, so back to the dr we went yesterday. He's working his way thru a Z-pack now.

The poor kid, has lost 5 pounds in a week. He was really hungry yesterday, so DH stopped and got him a french dip from Arbys. I guess he scarffed it down quicker than you can blink. He's keeping a good attatude and is drinking gateraide, water, and sprite, so he's keeping hydrated. Last night he was out by 8:30.

DS8 was home yesterday (probably H1N1) after running a fever all weekend. Thankfully, he had a mild case and his fever did go away early yesterday morning.

He's still a bit worn down, but went off to school today with instructions to "take it easy" and a book to read during recess. I can always pick him up if he gets tired.

I absolutely get it. The school here requires a Drs note if they are out more than 2 days. I am not sure how I will get one for this week if the Doctor's office remains closed

I am sure the school knows that things are going around right and left and will not hold it against your DD

She went back to bed around 7 and is still asleep. I went in a while back to see if she wanted to get up... Nope. If she had a test today (some of them are absolutely *nasty* to get made up) or was part of a group project then she probably would try to get to school, luckily no big tests or anything like that.

She said she knows exactly when she got sick, we were on a field trip and one of the other kids had a nasty cold...

DD14 was out the whole week before Halloween with "suspected H1N1" according to her doctor. Poor thing, I felt so very bad for her, aches pains HUGE fever, nausea, weakness... she wouldn't eat ANYTHING for three days and it scared the heck outta me. She's back to her old self now (four pounds lighter, too, not that she could spare it!).

I hope your daughter is better soon! DD's teachers were REALLY awesome about the makeup work when they found out how sick she was; hopefully that'll be your girl's case too.
