I forgot to say yesterday that at the vet's, once Woody was gone, we could really examine him. It looks as though he had a swelling over by his neck and jaw, the vet thinks it was either a swollen lymph node or a tumor. It explains a lot. (DD had noticed this but we didn't want to hurt him touching it andnother. She feels she can keep one safe in her room, and I agree. The cage we have is a huge converted bird cage that DH and the kids souped up, and it's kept up high on top of a bookcase, doors secured shut. (If I was a hamster, I'd like it in there, lol.) So we shall see. (Stay tuned.)
