Hello,
I am trying to figure out if I need to take my little guy to the emergency clinic tonight or if this could wait until the morning....

My dog who is 12 years old usually deficates once a day....sometimes, but not often twice. Over teh past three days he has gone 4 times a day each day!! That seems like a lot for a little 18 pound dog. Anyway, not to be gross but to explain, his stools are soft, but not dierrea.

We gave him some differant dog treats (sparingly) and thought maybe that was the cuase, but after day two of this problem we stopped. He was back to his regular treats, but not regular poopey habits. Now tonight he has a gurgly tummy and won't eat. That part I am used to, as he has a huge history of tummy problems....nothing to be concerned about the vet tols us because he has been checked for problems in the past... (He gets those a lot as he was is a puppymill puppy, and has had one bought of a gastro something or other years back).

So now, I am really weirded out by his poopey habits and now his not eating. I have checked his stool for anything strange, but other than being soft, it appears fine. What would you do? Doc Rafiki, if you can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. If he does not go to the emergancy clinic tonight.....he is definately going to his vet in the morning!!!

Thanks,
Liz

Well I am definitely not DocRafiki, but whenever my guy is having a problem like that, I cook him up either hamburg and rice or chicken breast and rice and feed that to him for a few days instead of his regular food. It's always worked. Good luck!

but he is my baby and I hate to see him not feel well. And right now he just won't eat anything, so we will see how this goes. He is definately going to the vet tomorrow though!!!!
Thanks for the advice!!!

You could call the emergency vet number and talk to someone and ask them. That is what I did for Simba.:D

Your doggie is such a cutie! I would do what Catsrule said. My westie gets the gurgly tummy once in a while and won't eat for a day or so but then I feed her hamburger and rice. I would definately just call and get some advice. I hope he feels better soon!

dehydration. I wish these littel guys could talk!!! Simba is very handsome!!!!

Thanks again!!!

He should be OK tonight. Be sure to take his latest stool , in a small can or jar, with you so they can check that as that will most likly be what they will need. Have you had him checked or treated for worms? Would there have been anything sitting around that he ate or drank by mistake?

Good Luck and let usknow how the little guy is doing.

You all would laugh if you would have seen me earlier picked up and looking through stool samples to see if I could see anything!! I sure must have looked very funny to the neightbors. But no, there is nothing that he has been into. I can't imagine where he would have gotten worms from this time of year...he only "goes" in our yard on a leash....he is also given his heartworm preventative, which also guards for other worms as well.......I thought about that too. I will definately be bringing a stool sample with me. Goodness knows there are pleanty!!! I will definately let you all know how he is doing after I take hime to the vet, which will hopefully be in the morning, rather than tonight!! Thanks for all of your concern and advice!!! It is greatly appreciated!!!

PD for mr. Barkley!!! Hopefully the vet will rule it as just a tummy ache or something like that. :)

but he will be going to see his vet in the morning!! He's snuggling with me in bed, and that is where he is gonna stay!! Thanks to all for the good thougts. I'll let you know what the vet says tomorrow!!!!!

[Great big hugs]] to you & Barley Liz

I sure hope he gets better real soon:(

Our baby is feeling the heat over here & has just been sick twice....

Take care my friend.......

Hey Liz, sorry to hear your little guy is under the weather. Sending get better pixie dust especially for him and {{{HUGS}}} to you. Please keep us posted on how he is doing.

can't offer advice but I can offer plenty of get well PD for Mr.Barkley and some  from one furmom to another

How is Barkley this morning? Hope he checks out A OK at the vet.

Barkley is still not up to snuff, but has been able to keep some food in and has also been drinking a bit.....I still have about an hour or so to go before I can call the vet's office as they are still closed. But you can bet, he will be there as soon as I can get him in. I will let you all know what happens when I get home. Thanks for all the PD, well wishes and thoughfulness. It is much appreciated!!!! DocRifiki also told me he should be OK, but definately get him checked out....so that is definately in the plans for this morning.

It may take a while to get to the vet however, we have a lovely 4-6" of new snow....and it is still goming down!!!!

From one mama of a fur baby to another....here are lots of prayers and PD for you and that little cutie of yours. Hope all turns out ok, I know how trying it can be.

Well, I just got back from the vet and my wallet is a whooping $200 lighter, and as of now, I am waiting on tests results to come back. The good news...it is nothing obvious.....the bad news...it is nothing obvious. There is a chance his anal glads could be part of the problem, but time will tell. Barkley had some blood work done, and also got a shot of antibiotics as well as some antibiotics to take home. He is a pooped out puppy (in more ways than one) and is resting, and most likely will be a little sleepy for the rest of the day. So Thursday I should have a better idea of what is going on. I really do trust my vet though, so that helps and does seems to be comforting. For now, no treats. Just his dry food and water. If the tests come back negative, we may be thinking about changing dog food!!! Time is gonna be the test here I think!! Thanks again for all theh well wishes!!!
