We leave tomorrow and I have a sick kid on my hand - she's running a fever and feeling crummy. I'm taking her to the Dr this afternoon to see if it's anything antibiotics will fix whatever's wrong with her.

Has anyone else had a sick kid in WDW? Any suggestions about what to do while we're there?

The idea that we may not be able to go makes me sad beyond belief. We'll see what the Dr has to say.

Thanks

Oh Charabby! I'm so sorry... I don't know what to suggest! Possibly, if she's up to it, take her to Epcot - the quietest park - and take her to see the characters to make her feel better. Possibly Animal Kingdom - animals can often have a theraputic effect on a sick person. It really depends.

I really am very sorry

That is sad. If it makes you feel better, my son had a fever and sore throat that started Sunday night. I kept him home on Monday (since you have to wait until 24 hours after fever is gone to send them to school as they are still contageous at that point.) Anyhow, he was fine on Tuesday. Hopefully your daughter will be fine although I doubt antibiotics will help. Anyhow, so no other kids get sick, be sure to keep her in the room until her fever is gone for 24 hours. (or if you have to take her out be sure to Purell her hands often to safeguard others)

My 13 mo old had a fever the day we left last week. Her Ped said it was a virus and to give her Motrin but no antibiotics. He also said we could travel. The first night she had a high fever we had to put her in the tub. We were in Epcot the next day and she ran a high fever again. I had Tylenol and Motrin with me and we gave her a rub down with cool water. We found a nice shady seat in Italy so we were lucky. If she had had a fever that morning my mom was going to stay at the hotel with her but this fever was tricky. The Dr was going to call in a Rx on Monday when the fever broke for good. Her biother never got a fever so I wonder where they catch these things. I hope your DD gets better fast and enjoys her vacation.

I know exactly how you are feeling. I leave in 13 days and my son fell Sunday and tore the ligaments in his foot. He is also running fever 103.4 I brought him to the Dr. and he is on antibiotics.

I hope you have a magical trip.

I hope your childs fever goes away.

I have seen a lot of posting about sick kids and I wish some of the parents would take kpgclark's advice and keep them in until they are fever free for 24 hours. I know that can ruin a vacation , but otherwise they are sprending it around to everyone else and ruining others vacation. We stayed in our hotel the last day of our vacation and skipped dinner the night before because our DD had a fever.

I feel for you.

Last June my son got sick on the day we arrived in WDW. He had a high fever & felt crummy.

Since we didn't get into WDW until 3:30 we just spent the rest of the night in our room (after a visit to the Care Clinic)
The next day my son still had a fever. We kept him in the room. My mother & her husband was also on this trip with us, so that day we took turns going to MGM (it was the last day of Star Wars weekends) DH & I were only at MGM for about 2 hours.

Anyway, the good news was that next day his fever was gone. He wasn't 100% & fell asleep a lot in the stroller but he was able to go & enjoy a bit of the parks & characters!!!
By the 3rd-4th day he was a lot more like himself.

I hope the fever breaks very quickly!!!!

So sorry to hear your little one is sick. If the md gives you antibiotics, be careful in the sun. Sometimes they can make you sensative to sunlight and give you a nasty sunburn. Keep plenty of tylenol and motrin on hand and remember to keep her hydrated with plenty of fluids. Usually after the antibiotics kick in (if its not viral,) they usually feel pretty good in about 24-48 hrs. Go at her pace.
Hopefully, this will make you laugh
Last time when we went to wdw my ds cut open his hand the day before we left and required alot of stitches. After careful planning and some creativity with plastic we came up with a way that he could still enjoy swimming and the waterparks during our trip. When we landed in Orlando we were all very excited for our trip. As my Dh hurriedly packed the rental car, I strapped all the kids in. I yelled back to my DH hurry up and he then proceded to shut the vans back hatch directly on his head. As I looked in the rear view mirror, I saw him standing there covered in blood with a nice gash to his head. We then found out where the nearest urgent care center was and proceded there. We then found out that our insurance wans't accepted and they wanted to staple his wound shut. Being that DH is bald, I thought he may look a little like Frankenstein. We then found the nearest hospital and the wait was 12-15 hrs!!!!! That's when my husband asked me to be creative again. I am a RN and had a first aid kit packed in my bag. We went to the hotel where I cleaned the wound and put it back together with some butterfly bandages (the scar doesn't look so bad if I say so myself!) We covered him up with plastic too and put a hat on his chrome dome so the whole area wouldn't get wet!
Anything for a disney vacation!!!

Good luck I hope she feels better SOON!!!:sunny:

Two out of the past four years, my son has been sick a couple of days at WDW. But, you know, we all have very fond memories of those times. DH and DD had a wonderful time shopping and bringing us back presents, and DS and I stayed in the room watching movies. It really ended up being some quality time. Passing some pixie dust your way for a speedy recovery and a wonderful trip:wizard:

As it turns out, she has strep and is still feeling pretty crummy. We are planning on one of us staying with her at the hotel tomorrow and are hoping for the best for Friday. Thanks for the tip about sun screen - we are all pretty sensitive to the sun as it is so we will be extra careful. I will do my best not to expose others to her germs :D .

Thanks for all the helpful responses - it's just another reason we'll have to go back to WDW! :sunny:

Well, at least you know what it is, and that it can be treated with antibiotics. She won't be contagious after 24 hours of being on the meds. They usually kick in really fast too. I hope she feels better and you all have a wonderful trip::yes:: ::MickeyMo

Well, if she has strep, that stinks but, if she is like my son was with streps, 24 hours on an antibiotic and he was a new kid.
Here's sending pixie dust to you so that your daughter will be better in a day or so!
