Sick Before Trip

Help! We are supposed to fly in on Sunday, and this morning my husband, son and I all woke up with a cold. I've thought about postponing our trip, but with spring break crowds around the corner followed by summer, I'm worried the crowds would be a lot heavier than we like. Should we just go and hope for a quick recovery?

How much time do you have before you have to start canceling flights and hotel? Sunday is still two days away, and sometimes colds turn around really quickly. If you can wait until tomorrow to make the decision without messing up your reservations, I'd do that. Also, do you have any rest days planned into your trip? If so, you could rearrange your days and take that rest day first, to give more recovery time.

I would pack a pile of over the counter meds and go anyway, including decongestants for the flight in case of congested ears. You can have fun going with colds, but just remember to go at a slower pace than you normally would, depending on how you all feel, and take breaks as needed. Go and have a blast!

Thanks everyone. We don't go to the parks until Monday, so we can adjust our plans for Sunday and just rest at the hotel once we arrive. We don't have to worry about cancelling until tomorrow. As long as we haven't gotten a lot worse by then, I think we will go ahead with our trip.

I can almost count on my kids getting sick right before Disneyland. I swear it happens more often than not. Luckily, it's always been just a cold so we can always still go. I'd rather have a cold at Disneyland than be healthy at work :)

Oh my the same thing happened to my family both my kids are having bad runny noses and we are driving in on Sunday. We realize it took too much planning and with having to get 4 people off of work at the same time, it would just take too much to reschedule everything. It seems the kids are getting better so hopefully its gone before Sunday.

Some suggestions to minimize the cold would be a nasal rinse which you can buy at the pharmacy, this can really help keep you cleared out before a flight. Boosting you vitamin C intake helps. Also if you can tolerate oil of oregano drops they can help minimize the severity of a cold. Other than that, as a PP said, just pack cold medicine and open for the best I guess!

Along with bringing some medicines, I would suggest stopping at Jamba Juice in DTD at least once a day to get a smoothie with the extra boosts in them. They taste great and it is a nice way to stay hydrated too.

I would also suggest doing the best you can to avoid spreading your illness to other guests. It is hard to know how many fellow guests have immune related challenges, e.g. undergoing chemo or other auto-immune issues, and a simple cold to some people can be a big problem to others.
