Sick and Tired of Being Attacked by Strollers

Getting hit with a stroller hurts the same whether you're burned out or whether it's all, "new, fresh and sparkly."

You missed the point. Of course it still hurts. But you don't care because you got the magic in ya! :goodvibes

I think in 95% of stroller bumps, its the pedestrians fault. I've been on both sides of the stroller. I've been bumped. I have bumped. If you're walking in a crowd, you absolutely CANNOT stop or slow down too much for any reason, other than to veer off to one side out of the line of traffic, unless you want scraped ankles.

My answer to the whole problem is, I don't go when it's crowded enough to get stroller bumped. Which we do. Last year the week of November 14, everything was walk on, wide open spaces and not a whole lot of strollers. Well except for MVCP at 10pm lined up in the middle of Peter Pan and Small World. There was one million strollers there that night.

Can we now talk about kids being too old for strollers? I think any non disabled and healthy child over the age of 4 should walk, at least the majority of the day. Anyone else? :cool1:

The next time a reckless guest hits us with a stroller, I'm going to chase them down, physically detain them if they refuse to stop, and wait for security to arrive. At least I should be able to demand a police report in case I want to file criminal or civil charges. How have you handled these "attacks"? Have you ever stopped someone who hit you and then refused to stop? Is there a phone number for Disney security or would you just call 911 from your cell phone?

DW was run into twice by different people with the big plastic Disney rental strollers. Both times caused pain but the 2nd time caused a lot of pain and a cut. Each time, the "attacker" took off. DS6 was standing waiting for the parade and someone came by running with a stroller and hit DS's arm. That person kept on racing down the parade route too... I almost chased them down but wanted to make sure DS was OK. At least have the courtesy to stop and see if we are all right!

:rotfl2:Yea and we are going to balance the budget too.

I don't agree. Kids don't all have the same stamina just as all adults do not. If a 5 or 6 yr old being in a stroller means that that family can stay in the parks longer, and enjoy their vacation, I have no problem with it.

We waited until DD was 6 so we could go sans-stroller. But we will still probably end up needing to rent one for her anyway!

But honestly? Getting your panties in a wad over someone *accidentally* hitting you with a stroller? Dang.

But I got many lols out of reading this thread. Thanks!

It's akin to the situation of someone that has problems with their legs and feet, but does not need to use a wheelchair or ECV at home. Walt Disney World is a whole different thing. Normally we don't walk that many miles in one day. (Most people, anyway.) But four theme parks put whole new demands on bodies large and small that aren't used to it. So a child that may be a little too old for a stroller normally would be better off with a stroller, and a normally mostly able bodied person may have to give in a bit and rent an ECV or wheelchair. (Almost typed "stroller" at that point. There's a mental image!)

That's it. DH and I are SO renting a stroller this time around and he's pushing me in it. Then I can start a thread about how my refillable drink mug won't fit in the cup holder (is there even a cup holder?) and how rude people were to us! :rotfl:

LOL I wouldnt be rude to you!! Of course I WOULD take your picture to post on the forums as no one would believe me if I said I saw a full adult woman being pushed by a full adult man in a baby stroller! :)

Tru dat. My daughter is a very "in shape" little girl who has been training in the martial arts since she was a baby. Disney kicks her butt a bit. She is so tired, and rather than having to take her back to the resort to rest, she just chills in her stroller for a while and she is back at it. I had to be pushed in a wheelchair last year for one day b/c I was extremely ill and very weak. I had spent the previous day in our room and could barely stand for 10 minutes. I wanted to push through for our kids. When we got off the plane I headed straight for the ER. I also have MAJOR foot issues, so if I ever needed one for that I would do it. Sad that people have such strong opinions in these matters that they would never consider the individual person's needs. I like what you said.

So glad you guys turned this thread away from another debate! When I saw the post about turning it into a "No one over 4 should be in a stroller" thread, I nearly cried. Not really, I was just wondering why we would need another thread like that. Seriously, there have been times I wanted to crawl into my daughter's stroller and let my hubby push the both of us after a long day in the parks. I am a blackbelt training hard for a 2nd degree black, and I am so tired after a park day!

So after reading this tread, are we to assume that only mean and rude people now go to Disney World........:rotfl2:

The only time a stroller "attacked" me was when I was walking behind my mom through a narrow walkway through a lot of people waiting for a show or something to start in front of the castle. We were going very slowly, and I got whacked on the ankles. Well, I stopped and waited, figuring it was just an accident and then kept going. But it happened again. I looked back and there's this man pushing a stroller and he wasn't at all paying attention, so I forget it and just turned back around to continue walking, and he did it again! At this point, my mom noticed that I was no longer behind her and was wondering what I was doing, but when I turned around that time, the man's wife finally noticed that something was going on (the Dad never did) and made him wait for me to get away from him

I get a kick out of these posts that say "I was walking in a straight line and someone stepped in front of me." Don't they realize that that person could have been walking in a straight line too? Straight lines can intersect. Just like an X, or a +, or even a #. The person who stepped in front of them is probably posting on this same thread, saying "I was walking in a straight line and someone stepped in front of me." :goodvibes

When I say that I'm walking in a straight line, it means I am walking in a straight line in the direction of traffic. I assume the same is being implied when others say it. So for example walking down mainstreet towards the castle when someone cuts across the street and across the flow of traffic.

Usually a stroller bump doesn't upset me, because I realize it is accidental and Disney is very crowded at times. But the last time we were at Disney I was hit hard with a stroller-it actually left a slight cut right above my ankle. The man apologized and went back to fighting with his wife. Take about 10 more steps and WHAM, the guy hits me again. I wasn't so forgiving this time and did give an evil eye and "watch where you are going!" He was too busy arguing with his wife and wasn't paying attention. It didn't ruin my day, but I had a HUGE bruise to go along with the cut.

Direction of traffic? We're not talking about I-75 here, it's an amusement park. There is no "direction of traffic" to speak of. You may happen to be moving in the same general direction as a herd surrounding you, but there's no organization to it.
