Sick and Tired of Being Attacked by Strollers

I have problems with the size of strollers these days! A lot of them are close to the size of a Smart Car! :lmao: Seriously, there should be a limit. One child to one stroller! Stollers are not substitutions for beasts of burdens to transport all off your valuables. I have seen strollers, so loaded that the operators cannot see overtop of them! The only thing worse is when you see a teenager or young adult riding in them! Really! Strollers were created for small children. :thumbsup2

We all hope that we are all always considerate and polite, that we never stop and block people suddenly, that we are always aware of our environment. But we aren't.

No, some of us really are.

If everyone held others to a reasonable expectation of manners and decorum, rather than tuning it out and ignoring it, we'd all certainly be better off.

I am amazed at the attention this thread has gotten and can't believe how many ppl replied to such a outragous post.

Why bother

I'm always nervous about walking around Disney parks when it's really crowded. The back of my legs has been hit many times by strollers which were going too fast and too close. What's even worse is when a parent gives another child the stroller to push and the child runs with the stroller, endangering the baby in the stroller and people who are walking nearby. I have two sons and when pushing their stollers at WDW, I was very careful and never ever hit anyone.

lol, you've never been distracted in your life? You are good!

I'm just saying that some people do make an effort, constantly. If I was, I'd expect to be held to a decent standard by others around me and hope someone would stop me and make me aware so I could take responsibility appropriately.

The thread doesnt seem to be about an accidental bump, but more about the people who are selfish and don't really care if what they do affects anyone else.

To me, blowing off something like that is basically a tacit acceptance. I personally don't think it's the way to go.

I agree that's good advice but don't blame the victim. For the rest of our trip... we were constantly looking behind us in crowd situations making sure we were not being tailed by a stroller. But should I really have to walk with one eye looking behind me? The incident with the person hitting DS6 -- DS was behind the rope marking the parade route pointing at something (his arm was extended over the rope, and the person who clipped DS's arm was running and pushing the stroller very close to the rope. He was going so fast, had no control of the stroller.

Didn't read all of the threads, just wanted to answer your question.

If DS had his arm behind the rope like he should have; I am guessing he would not have been hurt.

I have used a stroller quite often at WDW. I have hit people with it and have apologized. Of all the people hit, it is because they totally cut me off or stopped short right in front of me. I don't just go around using it like a battering ram.

Since you were hit so many times, I would fathom a guess that either you weren't walking in a straight line or stop short to look at things. :confused3

I've been on both sides of the stroller, so to speak, and I think it's difficult pushing one AND difficult avoiding getting run over by one. We have been the victims of a few accidental bumps, and one time nearly plowed down by a pissed off grandpa during a parade.

I guess you just have to practice situational awareness, use common sense and apply a little common courtesy no matter if you're a stroller pusher or a stroller avoider. Although in OP's defense, if the previously mentioned disgruntled grandpa had hit one of my kid's, there would have been repercussions...not sure what, but something. He clearly didn't care who he hurt, he wanted to MOVE.

Are you serious? You think this was my 6 year old son's fault? My son is 48 inches tall and weighs just as much. I think a 6 foot father racing with a heavy stroller should look where the H E double hocky sticks where he is going.

We were waiting for the parade to begin... The rope is there to mark the parade route.... We were standing still BEHIND the rope, not moving. DS6 did not jump out in front of the stroller. The guy was RUNNING with the stroller oblivious to other people. The rope is not a protective barrier so maniac stroller pushing fathers can barrel down on the parade route inches away from all the guests who are behind the rope waiting for the parade to begin.

The problem is.. some of these maniacs are in such a hurry and don't care about anyone but themselves and their little mission... The jerk that hit DS's arm was INCHES away from the rope running with a jogging type stroller. The parade had not started yet... the parade route was near empty. Why this guy was running with the stroller along the rope instead of in the middle... I have no idea...

All the "Me, Myself, and I" people should slow down and show some courtesy to all the other people trying to enjoy their vacation.

After reading many posts this afternoon, I have came to this conclusion. There are rude, stupid, loud, and many more examples in all shapes and sizes and from all aspects of the world. Between crazy wheelchair drivers, stroller drivers, groups of teens and so forth what else would us people have to talk about if these people did not exist.
Here are a few more people did not think of. We have a service dog we take to Disney every year. This is the most common things we get:
1. Kids saying, "Hiiiiiii Doggie"....kid's have watched bolt and up apparently hehe.
2. People telling their kids, "That lady is blind so she has her service dog", even though I am looking right at them smiling.
3. When people come up and pet your service animal, just because they miss their pets at home.

My point is, no matter where your at or what your doing. There is going to be people from different worlds whom may not act like you. I do believe their should be more manners as everyone has the same goal to see Disney!

A couple years ago, my friend got rammed by a stroller as we were leaving Fantasmic...blood was running down the back of both her ankles.

That's what everyone THINKS...but obvious by the size of this thread - it is not the case.

In most stroller 'attacks' there are two sides that end up thinking themselves the victim. The stroller pusher who believes that the person either stopped short or cut in front of them when they were on that path AND the person hit who believes the stroller pusher should have stopped, waited their turn and/or believes the stroller was not on the same path as he/she but made a turn into it.

Neither one is correct and both are correct.

The poster who said that her own dh hit her twice during a trip with their own stroller is a great example. Obviously he wasn't intentionally trying to hit her and they were even going the same way together. The point is it is difficult to maneuver yourself around such large crowds without accidentally ending up in the same path as someone else. That ends up in people colliding and people/strollers colliding frequently.

And with the people leaving after the incident - I wonder how many of the people who put their foot in front of a stoller take the time to turn around and apologize to that family? Neither one considers themselves at fault, so it's not going to happen.

And if you really think that you are never in a position where you might be considered rude or inconsiderate by others then none of us has a chance to get through to you because you're living in your own world. EVERYONE at WDW ends up in someone's way at some point during their trip.

I am not blaming your son. If that person that hit your son was inches away from the rope; I am still confused how your son got hit if he was standing behind the rope? I'm not saying there are not rude people with strollers. I am just saying that it is very difficult to maneuver the stroller through crowds with people stepping off curbs in front of you, stopping short etc. Case in point, I was walking down Main St and the man in front stopped short to show his son something. I did apologize but the man then proceeded to cuss me out in front of my children telling me to watch where I was going. I told him I was that if he wanted to stop, he should have walked to the side to stop rather than stop dead in his tracks.

Out of curiosity, have you ever wheeled a stroller at WDW?

This is the exact reason why i wear S.W.A.T. approved ankle armor every time i go to Disney. Why take a chance that i will be disabled for life when i can protect myself from the hords of angry stroller pushers. :rolleyes1

No, strollers are GREAT substitutions for beasts of burden!

I remember the days when you could bring your beast of burden to WDW and let me tell you it was horrible.

Getting stepped on by a donkey or an oxen is much worse that getting hit in the ankle with a stroller. And the smell! ugh.

And just imagine stepping in a pile of donkey poo in your crocs. You're never getting that smell out!
