So you go to the parks looking for that diamond in the rough pin  on some CM's lanyard and all you find are those dang blasted 2000 ribbon dancer pins :scared:. Well my friends you're in luck, should I say you're not in luck check out the next wave of lanyard choking pins  :headache: :sad2:

I never realized that lanyards were a choking hazard. I kind of get the impression that you don't think this is such a Kodak moment. While it may be frustrating to see so many of the same pin everywhere, I think much of the blame for this has to fall on the shoulders of Disney. If they would attempt to come out with a minimal priced set of pins that family's could afford the buying public would not be inclined to look for these batches of the same pin. But with the price of common rack pins now between 6 and 8 dollars it is almost prohibitive for anyone to get into this hobby to trade with cast members. Instead of constantly trying to one-up themselves by coming out with spinning, light-up, sparkling bejeweled pins that are as large as coasters; Disney should come out with smaller simpler pins at the $3 price point that can be traded all around the parks. The sets that they came up with for the Disney Store were prime examples. Many of those could be found for $4 new or $2 on clearance. And see how many different pins there were on the lanyards then. In fact, many times I actually traded for the Disney Store pins because they were new and different. I realize that the collectors may not be interested in these so-called "cheap pins" and if not they are free to pass them by. But for those who love to trade with cast members or other guests in a non-pressure lanyard situation this may be just the ticket.

Would anyone ever trade for a Kodak pin, though? Trader, pro, or novice. I just don't see it happening.

I was at HPCOE and traded with Scoop Sanderson for a Mystery Pin. Got a Kodak pin.

Disney's objective is to make money, not to make discount priced pins for families.

If someone wants to buy 500 pins that will be very difficult to trade, that is their choice.

Here's a different point of view...

I have both styles of the 2000 pin that swampfox discribes. We CMs don't particulary care for them either. :) If we get rid of it (no one wants it for a trade), then we just end up with another one. It's a never ending cycle.

We see those pins that were made in Spain ALL the time. Some are not so bad - and some people have actually traded me for them (off my cast lanyard).

I always have a tough time keeping the cast pins on my lanyard. Saturday, the pin I put on there lasted maybe an hour. Sunday, it lasted 8 minutes. I so wanted to give that Tinkerbell pin to a little girl. :sad1:

Trading is fun, and it has turned into a booming business. I agree with the posteer who commented on TDS pins. They are nice quality, and I do have at least one currently on my cast lanyard (and plenty in my pin bags at home). :)

Please explain what I did wrong?????

Sorry, I think you may have mis-intrepreted my comment. I am not familiar with the acronym HPCOA. All I could come up with was Happy People Can't Open Epcot but that's probably not what you meant. I guess it could be Huge Planes Carry Orange Aardvarks but I am not sure why Scoop would care about orange aardvarks. Not that Scoop has anything against orange aardvarks. In fact I think some of his best friends are orange aardvarks, just not sure where Kodak plays into this unless they are taking pictures of the aardvarks while they are riding Magical Express from the Orlando airport to the Animal Kingdom. Yeah I guess I can see that. So what were the aardvarks wearing? I know when I used to be in school my mom would dress me really nicely for school pictures. I can only assume that momma aardvark would do the same since this is a Kodak moment. And did you ever notice that Kodak spelled backwards is Kadok which I think is from the Inca word "ka doka" which means aardvark loving people.

I'm sorry, what was your question again?

Jeff, HPCOA = Happiest Pin Celebration on Earth (the September Pin Event).

Thanks Suzi. So I guess that means there were no aardvarks huh?

So am I the only one picturing little orange aardvarks lined up along Main Street wearing little Mickey ears and eating frozen bananas with tiny disposable cameras around their neck?

:goodvibes Too funny. Once I was trying to decifer the acronyms while medicated. They were much more interesting, I thought! I managed not to be banned...

Heat Prostration in 2002 Cured Obi-Wan Pinobi of wanting to go to another Epcot Pin event

Okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch. :earboy2:

After reading this thread, I am surprised you can make that claim.

I think this is where I am supposed to say, "I resemble that remark."

I vote for next year's pin event we all get hats that look like Aardvark heads and go visit Scoop. Maybe he'll give us Kodak pins wrapped in ribbons with 2000 dancing cast members. Then we can package all those pins up and send to Larry to thank him for starting this madness with his post which we immediately hijacked. We will officially be known as the PTWAHFS which means Pin Traders With Aardvark Heads For Scoop. Incidently, PTWAHFS is also the Mayan word for "man who dances with pickles". You can look it up if you don't believe me.

What we need is a dentist. You can't have this much fun and not have someone who has their own supply of laughing gas.

While I can't speak for Scoop (I failed my ventriloquist test when the judges couldn't tell which one was the dummy) I do know that he sometimes uses pins like the Kodak pin in his games such as find a match since they are so easily identified that even I can figure out if it matched or not. The other thing is Scoop probably trades hundreds of pins per day and at times I would guess that a pin such as the Kodak pin remains in circulation just because he has not had time to swap it out for something different.

Then again, it may be Scoop's way of honoring the orange Aardvarks or if you ask my son Dakota he would probably say Scoop has that pin because it was Licorice or Butterscotch's favorite pin (how strange is it that the number one memory my eight year old has from his only trip to Disney World is that of a man dressed in plaid that can make wooden dogs do tricks in the street?)

While these Kodak pins are frustrating when they overtake all the lanyards, they are acceptible for trading and we will have to live with the fact that they are around. If we collectors are so bothered by them, perhaps we can do our part to help the Cast Members by trading for 2 of these pins per day and take them out of circulation. It may reduce our personal collection by a few pins but it will do a tremendous amount to help the hobby that we all love. And when we collect enough of them, we can melt them down and create a replica of Expo Hall complete with a little statue of Scoop doing a pin talk.

Anybody been to the parks lately to know if the Dancer pins are still on all the CM lanyards? Hopefully they are starting to die out!!!! Have the Kodak pins replaced the Dancers in "popularity"?

Love the idea of trading for them to take them off of the lanyards! I'll have to remember that one when we are down next.

Scoop is one of our DD's favorite parts of the Magic Kingdom. She even has her own "Pin Talks" at home with her collection. He really goes out of his way to make everyone feel special.

I saw that auction and thought the same thing... These are going to be everplace. But what I want to know is how does someone get that many pins in the bags? Disney might need a new inventory control person.
