I came down with a cold today and I leave tomorrow for vacation.

Any tips for flying with a head cold?

Get Earplanes!!! (earplugs that minimize the pressure of going up and down)--and take an antihistamine/decongestant.

Only use the earplanes if you aren't experiencing any problems with your ears!
A couple of years ago we flew from the UK tp Florida and our oldest DD had an ear infection, which we didn't know about, she was extremely ill! :guilty:

Definitely take a decongestant. You may also want to pick up some Airborne (vitamin supplement). Supposedly, Airborne has all of the vitamins (vitamin C, etc.) and herbal supplements (echineacia, etc.) that are supposed to help for colds. My MIL is a nurse and swears by Airborne. DH and I have just started using it this fall -- figured it couldn't hurt.

Thanks everyone.
I'll take a ride to Walmart.
My head is getting worse as the day goes by.

I think its going to be nyquil and early to bed for me tonight. (Not a good way to start vaca)

I flew once with a sinus infection and strep, wasn't fun. Just take a decongestant about 60 minutes before take off.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Get well!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Just be aware that over the counter decongestants (actually all decongestants) can raise your blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure consult a health care professional before taking them.

If you don't have HBP, then Afrin an hour before the flight might help.

Oh, and you may need to ask at the Pharmacist's window for decongestant, since it's an ingredient used to make Meth.

Zicam, Airborne, lots of fluids esp water, dayquil, more fluids, no alcohol, orange juice, vitamin C, echinacea.

But then who am I to talk we've had a cold here for almost 3 weeks and just can't seem to shake it.

Hope you feel better soon! And that you have a great trip.

I was getting a cold the day before I left for France. My seatmate gave me some Airborne and it was amazing! The cold lasted two days tops. But when we landed in Paris, I was sure I was having an aneurism :earseek: because of the sinus congestion and the change in altitude.

Hope your trip goes well.

 Vicks Nasal Spray....two squirts in each nostril right before take off and landing will save you! Feel better!

so do you take airborne at the airport before you leave or during flight? I just got some for our flight next week and was wondering when to take it! :) TIA and good luck to you flying! :)

We take it starting the night before our flight. 1 tablet at bed. The morning of the flight depending on when we leave we generally take it an hour before we get to the airport and then depending on how long the flight is we may take another one if it's been longer than 4 hours since we took it last. We also take 1 a day at least *sometimes more if we have a cold already* everyday of the trip until the day after we get home.

Hope that makes sense

Exactly what I'd be doing. I disolve my Airborne in oj and put a dropper of echinacea in it. Then I use a Zican swab and take some dayquil. Lots and lots of water. Good luck and pay attention to your body. Flying could open you up to ear infections.

Wear a face mask/surgical mask to help limit the exposure of the other passengers. Drink lots of water so you don't dehydrate from the other recommended remedies. Hope you feel better soon.

I bought some Airborne to give my family before we fly!!! Hope it helps.

Have a wonderful vacation!!
