Sick 3 days before trip. What to do?

I have been feeling off since Friday but attributed it to my asthma flare ups. Yesterday my DH demanded I go to the Dr. just to be sure since things were getting worse. Well thankfully I went.. I was given an Xray and found I have pneumonia in one lung.

I was given xpac, steroids, breathing treatments every 4 hrs. and told to rest. I am listening to that and am already feeling better. I never even had a cough unless taking a deep breath, no sneezing, no fever etc. Just tired and painful breathing. No coughing at all today.

So here is my dilemma,

Disney is in 3 days. I have been cleared by the ER and my family Dr. to be out and about as well as travel by Friday unless I take a turn for the worse. We are flying there. I am on the mend, and told I am not contagious, I have good hygiene and always wash and sanitize our families hands.

DH wants me to cancel the trip. I am against it if I can manage. If the Dr. said no, I would certainly listen but they gave the go ahead.

Thoughts? part of me wonders if we should reschedule now anyway since the whole week looks like rain and high crowds. Just not sure what to do. And if I do cancel, how does that work? Will we lose all our money?

TIA

In 3 more days time you will likely feel much better. The doctor gave the ok to go and 3 days is alot of time for the medication to be fully working in your system. Take your meds with you, maybe take it a little slower than you had planned the first day or two you are there, and have fun!

It's amazing how much better you will start to feel with the meds. Are you taking kids on the trip and how long is your trip? When I was a kid our Disney trip was canceled because my brother was sick, they thought it was mono. We stayed home, he didn't have mono and my 8 year old sister was devastated. I would go and rent a scooter from an off-site company that way you have it all the time or you can leave it in the room. Sometimes trying renting one at the park on a busy day you may not get one because they run out of them.

I don't see where you'd need to reschedule. If your doctor said you're clear to go, you're feeling better, you're not contagious, and you listen to your body, I see no reason not to go. I'll bet 3 days from now you'll be feeling even better than you do today. At least for me, the crowd level wouldn't make that much of a difference, and the weather really shouldn't play a role in being sick or not.

From everything you've described, I'd still go.

Ok, this makes me feel a bit better. Feeling hopeless past few days. I have 3 kids 11, 9 and 5. They would be so sad.

DH is very asthmatic and is really prone to pneumonia and other severe respiratory illness. I know with meds he would likely feel better in three days and would not cancel YMMV! BTW, I would rather have this BEFORE the trip and be well on my way to mending than to be there and come down with pneumonia a couple of days before leaving like DH did one year. He couldn't get air on the airplane ride home and had to be hospitalized when we landed.

I def. wouldn't cancel. 3 days is a long time in terms of sickness and how you feel. If the Dr. says you're not contagious, then you're good to go.

What to do?

Whatever my Doctor said I could do. I'd tell him you aren't interested in him telling you what you can't do, but what can you do. Then, from there I would make my decision.

I agree that you should go ahead & go if you're not contagious and your doctor knows where you're going, that you're flying & he has signed off on travel. The meds should have you feeling better by then. Rescheduling would be a complete pain - I know from experience. We HAD to cancel a big trip to DL and Aulani a few years ago because DS had a collapsed lung and wasn't allowed to fly. This was a huge trip to cancel on such short notice and our only chance to reshedule was to wait for the following summer. If you're still not 100% by your first day take it easy - make it a half day or send your DH out with the kids for awhile while you take a nap. They would rather have you there & taking it easy for a couple days than to miss it altogether.

If you're feeling up to it and the Dr. has no problem with it, I'd go. Yes, rain is predicted most days, but its that time of year. They'll probably be late afternoon showers. I'm going later this week into next week as well, and the forecast doesn't look that scary to me.

I had pneumonia a few months ago. Once I was on the meds the turnaround to feeling better was pretty quick. Here's my question - are you coughing? With mine the coughing was so bad at first I actually cracked a rib. The coughing stuck with me even after I started feeling better otherwise and that was what made things hard.

I wouldn't let the weather forecast be a game changer for you - we're also there next week and I've been taking a look at the weather every day (even though deep down I know it doesn't matter what the forecast says) and the rain reports change literally 3-4 times a day. Don't let the forecast of rain scare you away.

When I had pneumonia, it took me weeks before I didn't need a nap in the afternoon. It really drained me. If you go op, you will need to be flexible on how long and far you can go each day.

I got very sick right before my trip back in August with a bad flu. I was about four days into it. I went and got an injection, antibiotics, etc. My doctor gave me the go ahead. I went on the trip. It was a ten-day trip. The first couple of days were pretty rough, but I was fine after that. I took some prescription nasal spray and I got myself a pair of Ear Buds. I will say, I felt awful the first day after the flight because my ears would not pop. A cold/flu/pneumonia and planes don't mix well! I am very hygienic like you, so I took antibacterial wipes with me and made sure I washed my hands often and used sanitizer!

You got steroids, Prednisone I presume. That'll fix you right up. Usually they give me quite a boost, and tons of energy too. I'd say if you're feeling all right then go for the trip. The doctor said you're good to go, so no worries.

If it's bacterial, you will feel so much better with the meds. Bacterial is a quick turnaround, especially since you aren't coughing. Viral pneumonia is a total bit**, but it sounds like you don't have that!

I'd go!!!!!

If you feel up to it and the doctor says it's ok, you can certainly go! My only concern is your energy level while there and, if low, if it will cut into your enjoyment of the trip. My DH and I went a few years back after I had had a stomach flu. We still went, but I was exhausted. We ended up doing half days in the parks, sleeping in the afternoon and then going back out at night, which was fine for us, but if I had had other family there (kids, etc.) who wanted to go, go, go, it probably would have been a downer for them. Will your husband be ok hanging out with the kids if you need to rest?

If you don't want to go, I would reschedule as opposed to canceling. If you reschedule, WDW won't charge you anything. If you cancel, you will forfeit your $200 deposit. (I'm assuming you have a package. If it's room-only the conditions are different). The other question, though, is what will you lose on airfare if you reschedule?
