Anybody else coming down/over to the Space Coast to watch? I teach not too far from US-1 in Brevard county, so I'm going to finish up my day and fly over to check out the launch!

What time is the launch? If the skies are clear we will be able to see it from here in SW Fla!

My son has one very lucky friend. He and his family flew to FL from Chicago yesterday to see it, for his birthday!!!!!!!!!! He has a family member who works there and was able to get the passes to see it. My DS who wants to be a pilot is SO envious but happy for his friend. I sure wish this program was going to continue...:sad2: Enjoy the launch!

Wish I could join you! :)
I will just have to be happy watching the minute or so (if we are lucky) that they will show on TV here in England! ;)

Have a great time

It is scheduled to launch at 4:50pm today.

I have the NASA channel so I am going to record it.

I wish we could have been there!

Can you pull up the Nasa TV website? Their coverage is on all day. I've been watching since they started filling the tanks at around 7:30am (Eastern Time). :thumbsup2

Traffic is already starting to build and the beach parks along our part of A1A are starting to fill. On the news, they said quite a few people camped out last night in order to have a choice viewing spot. Launches are always a big deal around here, but even more so now with the program coming to a close.

You should be able to stream it from nasa.gov.

We were at Kennedy Space Center in May. I loved it!

It's kind of sad that the space shuttle program is ending.

Astronomy and space flight have been my #1 hobby since I was 6 years old. I can still remember having a book with stamps (actually had to lick them!) of the planets and constellations. I would take my babysitter outside and we'd try to find them in the sky. I was part of the Young Astronauts program in Elementary School, and have visited SpaceCamp & the Space Center on multiple occasions.

To say that I'm sad about the end of the shuttle program would be a complete understatement. Devastated is more the word. :sad1:

That's great that they have the passes. We went one year, and of course you are required to have a pass to go over onto the other side of the bridge, to see it somewhat up close. We didn't have passes, so we saw it from a distance, and it was awesome.

Traffic was a nightmare the one time that we saw it. It took 3 hours to get back to Orlando. It was bumper to bumper, but I'd do it again, especially considering that this is the last launch.

Gonna catch it from the 11th floor of the parking lot here at the airport...Should be a PRIME spot..

In a no go state right now due to a central command computer issues.

At T minus one minute and counting. I'm going outside to watch the launch now.

It's beyond sad. I can't believe at the moment there are no plans for manned flight (for the USA - Russia, China and India have them) to follow up the shuttle program. Right now, my son will grow up in an America without astronauts.

Well, she's up. We can normally see it from the front yard, but not today. Too cloudy. We could hear it though.

Here to a safe and successful final mission, Discovery and crew.

Well at least government sponsored spaceflight for America.
There will be American astronauts, they will just have to hitchhike their way into space.
