Shut the lid suggestions

Anyone have any advice on how to get my best friends kids to SHUT the toilet lid? They put the seat down but never the lid. I have a curious (and stupid) cat who thinks toilet water tastes great and insist on drinking. He’s fallen in 4 times. I tried putting a picture of the cat in the toilet on the inside of the lid but it hasn’t helped.

I hate it when the lid is down. My cat drinks from the toilet. Your cat "falls in?" How does a cat 'fall in' the toilet? Send the kids outside to tinkle, lol!

he sits on the set (Which the boy can remember to put down) and leans down to drink (I have low water in my potty) and leans too far over. Hes heavier in the upper body than the butt.

what age are these kids?

2 or 3 it could be tough. But 5, 6 or 7 telling them once or twice should be enough. then get out the paddle.

Its the two big kids I have a issue with, the little one, she puts down the lid. I had a sign, it got me no were. I figured a picture might work. It didnt either. I told the kids next time there bathing the cat after he falls in. That should be punishment enough for them to NEVER do it again. I was just trying to come up with a more polite thing to do. Any cute sayings for a new sign?

I put a sign up asking people to please close the lid prior to flushing. It drives me insane when people flush the toilet with the lid up! I watched to many studies about how many germs are flung out of that toilet when people flush with the lid up. Its even grosser when you go to someones house and their toothbrushes are on the sink next to the toilet and people flush with the lid up, all those germs are all over those toothbrushes!

my house is full of signs. Shoes here by the doormat, dont eat me signs in the fridge, I stink sign by the cat box (i have a visiting child who likes to tell me it stinks), Hands off (on the computer), SHUT ME NOW (on the patio door), Flush me (on the toilet), Shut me before you get in (on the shower). Its a good system, and then theres the Laugh notes. My attempt at daily humor was copying the notes out of aunt ermas cope book.

do you ever talk to these kids or do you only communicate by signs??


If a kid -or anyone for that matter- can't get it by telling them a few times, sounds like your just going to have to remind them when they come out of the bathroom. I can't imagine they're in there enough for that to be such a huge issue.

I hate when the lid is down too. My cats drink from the toilet too, but no one has ever fallen in!

Yes we talk. I dont awalys catch them comming out. I have to admit, my bathrooms off in a corner and not around much. I do tell them though everytime I see them. Its a constant battle. There here alot.
