Shula's Steak House at the Dolphin

Ohh my god this place is awesome! As soon as you sit down they bring you sourdough bread piping hot, it is delicious. We both had the mozzarella and tomato salad as an appetizer and the mozzarella was so fresh! We both opted for the porterhouse and it was so tender like butter. For desert the apple pie was out of this world! We liked it so much we went back a second time and are looking forward to it our next trip.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is Disney-owned.

Most of the non-Disney restaurants that accept DDP are in Epcot World Showcase. There are three non-Disney TS restaurants at Downtown Disney and one at AK that accept DDP.

Also a couple of restaurants at CSR are non-Disney but participate with the DDP.

Shula's looks good--BUT. I really wish they would have a "petite" filet on the menu. Every steak they offer approaches a pound or more, and Mrs U is quite unable to consume that much steak especially after appetizers, drinks, etc.
THis is what keeps us from trying the place.

Best steaks on property by FAR.

I wouldn't call it kid-friendly, but I also wouldn't say kids are not welcome. There is no children's menu, but one of the differences between Shula's and most of the restaurants on the dining plan is Shula's has a wider selection of entrees and appetizers, so chances are there will be something most kids will like. They even had a Mac and Cheese appetizer last time we were there. It was a fancy Mac and Cheese, but the kids loved it.

We have brought our kids as young as 1 and never had a problem and were always welcomed by the staff. They have a "plate sharing" fee, but even when we ordered nothing for the young children they never put it on the bill.

The portions are large and the prices are fairly high, but if you are a steak lover it's the place to go.

If you can agree on an entree share. There is a sharing charge. I can't speak for the Dolphin location but other Shula's will sometimes waive the sharing charge if you order enough other stuff (appetizers, drinks, desserts etc.)

I had one (heavy set) waiter try to tell me the portion wasn't big enough to share. I chuckled and said something like I'm sure you'll let me order something else if I"m still hungry. Later I said something like I"m glad we shared, otherwise we wouldn't have had room for dessert. He didn't charge me for sharing but I was prepared to pay.

This won't work if you can't agree on an entree.

LewisC: Thanks, but we probably couldn't agree on sharing any steak except Filet--which is the only steak Mrs U likes. And sharing that wouldn't leave enough for me!!
Maybe I can interest her in something other than steak, but that might not be wise in a place famous for steak. Often places like that do poorly with other entrees...

You can always take the leftovers back to BLT for a snack later. You will have a fridge for it.

The Shula's menu says it has a $10 split plate charge.....has anyone done this?? My 16 y/o won't be able to eat an entire steak or filet there, but we could easily share one of the larger offerings. Done that way, it would actually be cheaper than going to Flying Fish for the three of us.

You may want to look into their 'early bird menu'. I have seen it advertised on the S/D channel while staying there last two trips. I believe they offer a smaller filet (6 oz I think), as well as norwegian salmon and something else non-steak specific to that menu.

RobinB: Were we at home I'd do that--I have 5 little K-9 friends who would help me out! But at WDW we never eat lunch, and have big dinners each nite. So I probably would never get a chance to eat it.

RobertP: I'll check their web site and see if that is a possibility!

I little late in posting my outcome of the daddy daughter dinner at Shulas...

My DD's 10 and 11 just loved feeling 'big' and pampered at Shulas. They spit a steak and both loved it. Dessert was a super hit as well. They asked to go back and we are doing so in 2 weeks.

My girls were the only ones there that night. I would not say kids are not welcome but they are a bit scarce.

The steak is well worth the trip!!!

You can get a little bit of a price break by purchasing a gift certificate on restaurant.com

They will often run specials for 50 - 80% off of their gift certificate price. I have purchased $25 gift certificates for as little as $2. There are several restaurants from the swan/dolphin resorts listed on the website. I got an e-mail this morning with a 70% off code. Normally without a discount code - the $25 gc is $10 at most places. Using the 70% code - it would be $3. Watch the special rules - you can only use one gc per table, even if separate checks and can't use another one at that paticular restaurant for a month.

I was a little leary of the website at first but I buy them frequently for the restaurants locally and plan on purchasing a Shula gc to use when we travel to Orlando later this year.

What are the prices like at Shula's? I looked on their website and they listed what they had, but no proces. Also, what is the dress code like?

Chirping in to say that since this thread started, we've been to Shula's 7 times--and LOVE it.
The menu on this site, Allears, and the Disney site itself all have the Shula's menu with prices. It isn't cheap.
The dress "code" is exactly the same as for all the other Disney Signature restaurants.
And to add that the sharing charge no longer exists..

Has anyone actually used restaurant.com gift certificates at Shula's? I know that I've bought one for a local restaurant before on that site only to find out when I got to the restaurant that they actually do not accept those gift certificates. :confused3 I'd love to try Shula's as we are meat eaters, but with its high prices, I'd need that gc to give it a try.

My wife just looked it up and they have a $25 GC for $10 right now. We are going to check back periodically as they will eventually go to $2 for a $25 GC.

Also, we have never been to a signature Disney restaurant, so I'm not sure what the dress code is. Is it shirt and tie? Coat?

Use the code "dad" on restaurant.com right now for their Father's Day sale and get 70% off which will make the $25 gc only $3 . Once you get signed up, they will send you codes all the time.

None of the above are required. Dress shorts are fine, no hats..it's basically resort casual attire. Shirts need not have collars but should be tasteful.
