Anyone read the Orlando Sentinel's totally biased 2 star review of Shrek 2?

The reviewer seems to be upset with the jabs at Disney and at the end of the review you can tell that he still hasn't gotten over Shrek beating Monsters for the Oscar a few years ago. He sounds worse than some of the fanatics I've seen post around here...maybe his day job is dressing up in a Mickey suit! ;)

Fortunately just about everyone else disagrees with this clown. Current overall rating on
Rotten Tomatoes is about 93%, USA Today gives 4 out of 4 stars, Roger Ebert 3 out of 4 stars, and Yahoo Movies B+/A-.

I haven't seen it yet, but will probably take the kids this weekend...or maybe even tonight!

I didn't get any indication that the reviewer was upset about the jabs at Disney -- he just didn't think they were particularly funny. This reviewer isn't a big Disney fan, and he loved a lot of the jabs in the first Shrek.

He did, however, seem to be upset about the Monsters Inc. thing.

Overall, it appeared as though he was expecting more new material as opposed to the "same old jokes." Of course, the same old jokes are old jokes for a reason. They work.

At any rate, I don't see how he comes off as worse than some of the fanatics here. Go read his reviews of some of the Disney films and you'll see how non-fanatic he is!

I'll probably wait to see it until the hype is over ...

He just seemed way out of sync with nearly every other critic that's reviewed the movie. The last comment about the original Shrek beating Monsters for the Oscar sort of led me to believe that he was Disney biased. I'll have to go dig up some of his older reviews.

As for Shrek 2....I'm going to wait until I actually see it before commenting further on it.

It's known, I don't like Shrek at all. Maybe its because I don't like Cameron Diaz in ANYTHING and wouldn't change my mind to save my life. Maybe its because of they fact that it DOES outrightly mock Disney which I find offensive. I don't know why it just does. But I can say that last year for our yearbooks there was a poll of who looked like a celebrity. There was a kid in my english class named Kyle and he has a long face and one day I walked in everyone was like, Vote Kyle for looking like the donkey from Shrek. At that time i was glad I had seen Shrek. Because let me tell you, he really does look like Donkey. And for his quote he said, thank you to everyone in my english class, now if you don't mind i'm going to make some pancakes. That was awesome. And the name has stuck. So i admit, I am a little glad i had seen Shrek. But i wont go pay my money to see the second one unless its at the Drive in Movies that is like 3 minutes from my house, literally, on the Dusk to Dawn listing, as in then i would have to see it.pirate:

The reviewer or the OP?

I do have to agree with the Rotten Tomatoes concensus on the movie, however. It's really good. I just returned from seeing it with DH and Dkiddies ages 4-10. I think it's at least as good as the first. It's cleaner but still full of jokes for adults. I loved the references to other films including The Right Stuff and Raiders fo the Lost Ark. Frankly, I found the Disney jabs to be tamer than the DuLac slam of the original. The Little Mermaid reference made me LOL, loudly, in the theater-- and I LOVE The Little Mermaid.

As one who has gotten into the animation debates before, I've got to tell you, this thing looks amazing. There are shots of Fiona in which her hair absolutely looks like a film shot, not any type of animation. ALso, there's a water effect that I couldn't help wondering if the animators were just using to show off.

This one has an awful lot going for it-- even if it includes Cameron Diaz, of whom I'm not a huge fan, either. It even has Disney icon and ambassador of the DL 50th hoopla voicing its queen-- that's right Julie Andrews.

Just my .02 worth.

I hated Shrek and won't see this until video but my daughters (10 & 15) liked it very much. Both thought it better than the first.

I wasn't much into the original Shrek either. I thought it was highly overrated. I'll probably see the sequel on DVD, but I'm not even really looking forward to it.

My reasons for not liking Shrek had nothing to do with the Disney jabs either. It just wasn't that amusing to me.
