Show us your Christmas Tree

Taken with d7000 and a tokina 12-24

The print I have crops it a little tighter, but this is all I have on on my iPad right now to put on Flickr

These aren't great Christmas tree shots, but I thought people might like to see the effect. I use a cutout shape in front of my lens to change the shape of the out-of-focus lights on the tree. You can do the same thing by cutting out a black piece of paper a little larger than your lens and then cutting a shape into the paper. Hold it up against your lens (without the hood) when you take the picture. Use the widest possible aperture and keep your subject reasonably distant from the tree. The effect works best if the lights are really out-of-focus.
