Show me the shot you're most proud of

Very nice Nikki! How long have you had your new camera?

I've barely had mine six months and am still enamored by the quality~

Here is another one I was totally estatic about how it came out...

This is beautiful!

What kind of camera? (if you don't mind? :flower3:

I like this one I shot this weekend of the Gibbons at AK.

After photographing this mill on a more or less regular basis over the last three decades or so, I finally got a halfway decent shot.

I had to scroll down more to make sure I was right about it being Mabry Mill before I got to where you said so :) And that is something I am going to go back by and see on way to Charlottesville (stopping at Tech too). Granted it wont be fall leaves, you inspired that stop!

Great shots!!! Will have to look at a few of mine.

Truly fantastic photography all around!

Sure pumps me up for my next trip in the fall!

Odd post I made in 08 and it's now late 2014 so I'm removing it LOL

I'm lucky to have taken quite a few that I really, really like. Here are a few of them, hope you like them too.

From a visit to a nature center a couple of weeks ago, an albino rat snake. I like the natural light and the light "bubbles" in the upper right corner:

This one was taken in the Great Smoky Mtns National Park, at the top of Clingman's Dome. I like the contrasting colors of the dead grey trees with the red berries, amidst all the fog:

My favorite pic of the castle, PROBABLY. LOL

My favorite humorous shot, taken in Germany at Epcot. Someone might've stayed a bit too long at the tavern, ya think? :lmao:

Canon Rebel XTI 70-300mm lens on manual, 1600 ISO, 1/250 shutter speed. Hand held.

Here are a few others from that night...

Those are wonderful shots!! I've always wanted to catch that shot of Mickey with the sword - and wondered how others did so! When I read your equipment list I got really excited, as that was my Christmas gift from my dh this year! (what a guy!:thumbsup2 ) Now I just need another trip down to WDW to get the photo I've been dreaming of!!!:cool1:

NICE! Thanks.

But Do you used Flash?

Is manual focus better than auto for this kind of pics?

Thank you!

I got a similar, but not as good, shot a couple of years ago. If I recall, the biggest challenge was the timing. Immediately before the shot, there was a lot of fire. If you shoot too soon, the super hot air distorts the picture. If you shoot to late, Mickey's sword has shot it's load.

My settings were ISO 1600, 1/500s, f/2.8, 200mm (260mm equiv). Click on the picture to see more from that night. Most flashes will be useless at that distance. I suppose that a powerful, zoomed flash might reach OK, but I don't think that you'd like the results. My advice is to use your highest useable ISO and widest useable aperture. I found that auto-focus worked well enough.

My other concern would be metering. If you can't zoom in terribly close, most of the scene will be very, very dark except for your bright subject. That could fool the meter into overexposing. You might want to spot meter, but that's harder to do well as you must be very careful what you meter off of. I can't recall how I metered it.

This is the Tink at the top of the BW Christmas carousel. What was weird was that it was early morning and the lobby was flooded with sunlight! A beam was shining directly in the window and right on her. I fired off my shot and was surprised how much contrast there is b/t her and the background.
I must've done something right!

This is an old pic that was from film... so the quality didnt transfer very well. It just one of my early favorites (1996).
