My husband should be receiving one from his employer but we still haven't received it. Isn't there a deadline that we should have gotten it by? I sent an email to them but I thought there was a January 31st deadline, no?

There is a January 31st deadline to have them mailed by but not delivered. That's up to the post office. Call his employer and request a new one be mailed or see if you can get on-line.

Do you mean your W-2 ? Yes, you should have received it by now. Just give give them a call they will re-issue one.

And what happens if they didn't mail them by the 31st?

WHen we owned our own business and used contractors, our 1099s did not have to be sent untill the 31st of March. W2s have to be out by the end of January, 1099 Rs I think are also 1/31. If you are a contractor and have to pay your own Social Security and all, the late date is a PITA.

Then you report them to the IRS! It's against the law! And BIG TIME!

We almost had to do this with my company, because the 31st was a Sunday, and they wanted to send them out on the 1st instead, which was a Monday. People threatened right back, and they postmarked them on the 30th instead. :snooty:

Anyways, I didn't get mine. Lost in the mail.

They can wait, by law, until today, the 15th, to do reprints.

I just called my payroll guy to reprint mine.

I was told ours was sent on Saturday (the 13th of February).

Regarding 1099-Misc Forms (Miscellaneous Income) for 2009, according to the "Instructions for Payers" (employers) it says: "Furnish Copy B of this form to the recipient by February 1, 2010. The due date is extended to February 16, 2010, if you are reporting payments in boxes 8 (substitute payments in lieu of dividends or interest) or 14 (gross proceeds paid to an attorney).

Are you 100% sure this is your W2 you are talking about?

I'm talking about a 1099. I got our W-2 weeks ago. That came from the payroll company that they use for payroll. The company themselves issue a 1099 in addition to the W-2.

There shouldn't be any reporting in boxes 8 or 14 for us.

As others have mentioned, you basically report them to the IRS. You still have to file your taxes on time, though, and if you don't get the forms in time, you have to make estimates, based on data that the FCC may be able to provide you (see Form 4506) and/or your own records, and file Form 4852 along with your 1040.

Since the 31st was a Sunday they had until 2/1 to mail them. It is possible that the weather could have delayed them. Call the company to see if they were sent and if they could email or fax you a copy.
