I have read with interest many of the 'How crowded in August?' posts.

I suppose it does depend how people define crowded and is hard to get an accurate estimate.

We are going 1st week of August (2005) and are wondering how crowded is crowded.

Is it like a shopping centre on a Sat, food shopping or is it like the new year sales?

For those who have been to Alton Towers in the UK do you have the same ratio of space and wait for rides i.e. room to breath with long wait for main rides but majority of rides having only a very short wait?

We have a 6 and a 8 year old how close of an eye do you need to keep on them will they get quickly lost in the crowds?

Thanks I appreciate any help anyone can give in giving me a comparision.

It's been a few years (2001) since we were there in the 1st week of August. 1st of all, its not the crowds as much as it is the humidity and the heat. That makes the crowds seem much worse because you are HOT while you are waiting and it's very uncomfortable. We just took our time and used the fastpass system as much as possible. We spent the hot time of the afternoon in our room napping (in the pool would be another good choice!) and toured early in the morning and late into the evening. We also bought a lot of gimmicks to try and help keep us cool!

As for the rides, when we were there the popular things had a 45 minute to 1 hour wait. For the most popular rides, we got there early and used fast pass. If you are staying on site, take advantage of the early entry hour and that should help you get the big stuff out of the way.

With kids that age I would keep them close, it is easy to get separated in a crowd and yes, in some places it will seem shoulder-to-shoulder. Just make sure they know how to locate a cast member if they do lose you.

Good Luck, and if you have questions, post away, there are lots of helpful people here!
