Shoulder Disability Issue

Hello all,

About 2 years ago on a trip to Hilton Head, my mother fell and broke both of her shoulders. Since then, she has trouble sleeping - to the point that she sleeps in an oversized lounge chair at home.

Here's our problem - most of the rooms don't have an actual lounge chair. They have an armchair, but not a lounge chair. Sleeping in beds is difficult; she needs to have her shoulder supported, and if, in her sleep, her arm begins to slip, she wakes up and then can't really shift positions because she's stiff and sore...

Does anyone here have a similar problem? I am hopeful that someone who has shoulder issues has a suggestion. I don't know how common sleeping problems are for people with shoulder issues. We've even considered renting a lounge chair from Rent-A-Center but think the logistics of getting this delivered would be difficult. We'll be at BWV in a 2-BR. We just got back from a 1-BR at BCV and she didn't rest well at all. I didn't know if the HA rooms had lounge chairs, or if anyone knows of any devices that can be helpful, that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I don't remember lounge chairs in any of the villas. I wonder if a "husband" would help. It is a bed backrest with arms. Hopefully, it could give her the support she needs. She could try it before the trip. I think they are available at most bed/bath stores. I've considered shipping mine down and may do it next trip.

See what's available for rent from caremedical.com (one of the medical equipment rental companies in the disABILITIES FAQ).

You may want to rethink the lounge chair idea because it could put additional strain and compression on the spine. What kind of support device would she need to be able to lie flat in bed? Anything workable? Then you would bring this device with you on trips.

I've seen someone checking in with a recliner at OKW. I don't know if they brought it or if it was a rental - but bell services was taking it to the room.
