I am willing to wager the May 5th announcement will be related to a California DVC resort rather than anything new at WDW, but we shall see, LOL.

If true, I guess it depends on how quickly folks want to start using their points. If past patterns hold true, it could be 18 months before they even publish details on the resort (point charts, room types, amenities, etc.) and start selling. And it will probably be a minimum of 2 yrs before the resort opens for guests.

Wondering if they're thinking of converting one of the DL properties, perhaps the DL Hotel where they currently lowered the use points, to DVC timeshare?

I just can't see them converting those rooms to DVC units in just 6 months time. Seems like a major reconstruction to me, not just a basic rehab/refurb.

No - all DVC resorts (residential buildings) have been constructed new from the ground up. The prior accommodations at DI (and all of it's predecessors dating back to the early 70's) were demolished to make way for SSR. The only "old" components at SSR are the Community Hall buildings, Front Desk area (including the AP portion), the Spa and tennis courts - and even those areas got a face-lift.

With the improvements in building techniques and the need/desire to update facilities to modern building codes, I'd be very surprised to see DVC simply renovate old structures rather than start anew. I know that the DLH has undergome extensive reconstruction since 1955, but it would still have some outdated components. As for any "renovation" of the 34 year old CR, think of the improvements and changes in construction techniques and building codes (in terms of electrical, communication and plumbing) since 1971. I'd be very surprised to see a renovation of CR into a DVC facility.

I would not want to buy at Contemporary due to the small, outdated pool.

The pool is nice, but no theming to it, an old fashion style slide, etc.


I'm spoiled by the pools at all of the DVC resorts!!! I really enjoy the themed pools at my DVC resorts....

I have to say I am a DVC Wantabe and part of the reason I am stillon the fence is all this CR going DVC .....that and the money of course,lol
