I will do that! And I'll actually go ahead and post the final update for this one, which I've had written for a month lol

This was the same when we were out there last time. I have to think they got rid of Doc out there? I mean she is in Hollywood Studios, I don't think they really need her in 2 places.

I actually think it is a great ride to rope drop. The line can be super long and slow and the Fast Pass line, alot of times is no better.


Seriously, this could be a picture of Morgan. She does the same thing for Spalsh, she hate the big drop but loves the rest of the ride!

Love your AK day. Planet watch was closed when we were there and I was bummed the kids couldn't see it but relieved I didn't have to fit it into the schedule.

I feel this way too! I was actually a little irritated when they reopened it before the trip we just took because I didn't know how to fit it into the schedule. First world Disney problems.

Too funny that you skip the carousel and Barnstormer. I guess you need to get some alone time however you can

For real! Time to yourself on a WDW vacation is pretty rare.

We are not big fans of It’s Tough To Be A Bug either. I think we watched it with our boys once, but it might have been their first trip so I haven’t seen it in years.

Congratulations on not having had that atrocity in your life for the past several years!

I do remember Cora’s fear (Is that what we should call it?) of Splash Mountain. I’m glad she enjoyed it.

She is ridiculous! Spoiler alert: it happened again this year...

Day 12: August 1, Part 2 – You ate HOW many of those?

We took a break at the resort and Cora wanted to swim. Alex had just gotten a new Toy Story toy while at the Magic Kingdom and wanted to play with that rather than swim. I stayed back with him, as I rarely swim at the resorts because it’s such a pain on my already nightmarishly-difficult-in-humidity hair.

This was Alex’s toy and he loved it.

But, of course, he eventually got restless, so I took him down to the arcade. We waved to the rest of the family at the pool as we walked by.

In the arcade I discovered that my hours and hours spent playing Cruisin’ USA at the arcade in middle school and high school had had an impact, as I kicked butt.

Yeah, buddy!

Alex not so much.

I also almost had an amazing game of pinball, but of course, Alex desperately needed me to come look at something else before I could finish it and messed up my streak. Boo.

Time for more park time! And, because it was our last night, we were headed back to Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, this was the scene outside at the time we were leaving out.

Summer torrential downpour time! I had booked us a FP to ride Big Thunder again once we got back to the park, but of course that wasn’t happening now. It was replaced with an anytime fastpass, which I used to break a promise I’d made to Alex. He hates Space Mountain. I was a fan of it until I tried Disneyland’s version, which is now probably my favorite ride in a Disney park. So I’m now able to take or leave Space at WDW and told Alex he wouldn’t have to ride it because I would skip it with him when DH and Cora did it with a fastpass. Which I did. However, Cora was really pushing for using the FP at Space because she loves it and was arguing that she’d had to suck it up for Splash so Alex could suck it up for Space. She had a point and Alex finally agreed. He doesn’t have Cora level reactions to the ride, though. He just doesn’t enjoy it, which you can clearly see in his ride photo. His condition of riding is that he would be between his parents, which Cora was fine with as she likes to ride “alone” and feel more grown up.

Next up some easygoing favorites to counter the jerkiness of Space – the one two punch of Carousel of Progress followed by Peoplemover.

After that I got us back to back fastpasses for Winnie the Pooh and Little Mermaid before we headed off to a new version (to us) of an old favorite. A lot of people think that the dessert parties are a big waste of money. I understand the sentiment, but we love them, and have done the Magic Kingdom one every trip. However, we have always done the seated terrace version. We decided to try the garden party this time, which hadn’t been an option for us before.

Something else new for us was the cheeseburger egg rolls. You’ll notice that DH has two on his plate for his first helping.

He only restrained himself from getting a fourth plate due to shame. I think he’s planning to power through the shame and eat all the egg rolls this year.

We grabbed some extra waters before going down to be escorted to the garden. Can I make a proposal? If you are carrying one of those ridiculously giant balloons and don’t lower it during the fireworks you should be banned from Disney parks for life. Too extreme? Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), I’m one of those people who has no problem saying something polite-but-forceful when confronted with obliviously rude behavior. Long story short, the balloons came down.

This was our first time seeing Happily Ever After. I knew going in that I was going to miss Wishes terribly, but I loved the new show as well and still cried because I can’t help myself when it comes to Disney. And Alex getting a little teary-eyed and hugging tighter to me during “You’ll Be in My Heart” sent me over the edge.

This was a PM EMH night, so we decided to try that out. We’ve done plenty of morning EMHs and love them, but this was our first evening. We won’t be doing that again. I found the crowds to be just as bad as during the day, but with no fastpass available. No thanks. But it was still cool being in the park late. I enjoyed seeing the castle like this.

We rode Jungle Cruise first, wanted to try Big Thunder but the line was too long, so went to Haunted Mansion. The kids were desperate to ride this one after dark.

We followed HM with it’s a small world, Philharmagic, and the Little Mermaid ride before deciding we’d had enough and headed for the exit. Alex insisted on a picture with Minnie and Roy on the way out.

I was kicking myself for not just springing for the Minnie Van, but it ended up being fine – the end of another magical trip.

Day 13: August 2 – See You Real Soon!

We had a lazy morning on our departure day, as we weren’t doing a park and didn’t have to be anywhere by a specific time. We walked around and said goodbye to the resort and enjoyed some more animal viewing.

A little after 10:00 we finished packing up the car, headed out, and were soon presented with one of the saddest sights in the world (no drama here).

It was a little easier to leave this time because 1. We knew we’d be back within a year and 2. Our trip wasn’t actually completely over. We were spending that night in Biloxi, then heading to New Orleans for a quick visit there. We did the Jazz Museum and Jackson Square, had beignets at Café Du Monde and ate some great Cajun food. It was just enough to allow the kids to get a taste of the city and now they’re begging to go back some time. Of course they were excited by how much it resembled Princess and the Frog.

I wrote the above on the night before our trip for this year last month. We’re now three weeks out from that trip and in full-on end of trip funk mode, but I have to say it’s not as bad as it’s been before. Perhaps it’s because I know we’ll be back again in less than a year (10.5 months, but who’s counting?). Perhaps it’s because I know we will be headed to Disneyland in November. I’m not really sure. But I can say that the trip of this report was one of, if not my absolute, favorites of our trips. It was exhausting, and magical, and full of memories that make me smile whenever they come to mind. I appreciate those of y’all who have stuck with this one despite numerous starts and stops. And, as I’ll be starting the next one in the near future, hope to see you real soon!

Glad you finished this report, I always love reading your reports!! It’s been fun to see your kids grow up, and it’s wonderful that they continue to enjoy Disney. My DD 13, who will be 14 next month, has waned somewhat on the Disney magic, or at least that’s how she makes it seem. Thankfully my two boys are still going strong in their love for the parks. I hope your trip this summer was wonderful!!

Yup, definitely me, too. Although, I have strong feelings about big balloons in theme parks regardless of fireworks viewing. They just blow around into other people to often. But I digress....

We love the dessert parties at the MK, too! We did the garden view last year and thought it was great. Yes, they are money, but when we are seated in the garden area (yes, seated) and we have room to move around, there is nothing that makes me want to be packed in like sardines with everyone else on Main Street. We love the cheeseburger egg rolls, too, and I had a fair number myself, but who’s counting?

Great ending to a great trip!

Aw, thanks so much! I love that we have these Disney pictures of the kids through the years. I'm terrified of the Disney magic waning! Both of mine have assured me that it will not happen, but I'm still suspicious of the teenage years. Glad at least your boys still feel the magic! And hopeful that your daughter will rediscover it. Wow, that was some rain!

It was nuts! But we've come to expect that at least once or twice on our summer trips once. Our trip in June 2016 started off with a tropical storm.

Yes! It's just so worth it for us to not have to be packed in. It actually makes for a relaxed firework viewing experience. And I'm actually not a giant fan of the egg rolls. However, I eat my weight in chocolate covered strawberries, so it's all good.
