We will be arriving in WDW 5/27 only 2 days to go :cool1:. Anyhow, I have looked at AKV online (love the rooms), have been reading every single thread on this board regarding DVC for the last 2 months and feel well prepared. I know the incentives, I know I like the rooms, I know I LOVE Disney World, and I know we go there at least once every year and always stay deluxe (seems that DVC would work for us). The only thing I don't know is whether I want to buy AKV or wait for the Contemporary. I spoke to my Guide Gibb McCain last week and he knows our dates and suggested that we come by and see the models, he also knows I prefer Comtemporary and said he would put me on his list and give me a call as soon as it's available for sale. So bottom line is do we really need to take the tour??? OR should we just go enjoy our vacation and wait for the Comtemporary to become available. UGH!!! Decisions.

Two key questions regarding buying and Bay Lake Towers:

1) Are you willing to wait?
2) How important is staying there to you?

On #1, if you're in no hurry to purchase and waiting a year or two doesn't matter to you, then hang on and see what happens. AKV will still be selling through Dis, and there will be more AKV resales out there, too.

On #2, there has been speculation that the cost per point to buy in and the points required to stay at Bay Lake Towers (BLT, KTV, CRV, whatever they're calling it these days!!!), will be higher. So, if you can buy less points for the same amount of money and those points buy you less time at the resort, will you still want to stay there? I would go ahead and tour, as the information isn't going to change. It will also give you time to do more research on anything new that comes up in your conversation.

To me, worst case scenario is you wait a year, BLT is never announced, and you end up paying a little more for an existing resort. However, if you do tour, know your answer to the buying question going into the presentation. The reps aren't high pressure, but when you're finished, trust me, you're going to want to buy! :rolleyes1

I would take the time to view the model rooms. First, they will pick you up at the resort you are staying at. Second, they will bring you anywhere you want on property after viewing the models. Third, you may be able to acquire some complementary Fast Passes. Fourth, Ice Cream!

We never got any ice-cream, but we did get a $50.00 Disney gift card at the end our tour. (This was in May 2006).

**IMO...only take the tour if you intend on buying. Once you're there, you will want to purchase!

WARNING! WARNING! DANGER WILL ROBINSON! DH and I toured the models in March '07 just to see what the AKV rooms were looking like. We told ourselves beforehand that we were going to "be strong" and resist the urge to add-on. We walked out with a dish of ice cream and 50 more points.

So by all means, tour the models. But it might be the most expensive tour you'll ever take!

Hmmmmm...

There are some persistent rumors that the BLT (Contemporary DVC) will go on sale this July. Personally, I will believe it when it is announced, but if you really prefer the Contemporary, I think you should at least wait until later this summer to buy. It does sound like DVC will be right for you.

We decided before we even arrived we were going to do the tour but not buy. Well, we decided the incentives were too good to pass up because we are renting our incentive points out to offset the cost of ownership. So if you are stronger than us, go do the tour. The models of AKV are beautiful! We got $30 in gift cards and ice cream. No one ever told us about the fast passes, cause we would have gone that route instead, but we got those anyway when we closed.

It's the only place you can finance your ice cream purchase over 10 years :rotfl2:

We toured the models, got the ice cream (we did ice cream before buying) then added another contract at SSR instead of AKV, the lower dues and better incentives at the time appealed to my cheap but somewhat short sighted nature. But the AKV models made us want to add-on even more. We were just going to see the models and then THINK about adding on, oops!

I would take the tour. It certainly can't hurt. As has been said they will pick you up and you might get those cool fast passes. Seeing photos of the AKV rooms is great, but in person is 100 times better.

Let us know what you do and have a magical trip!

We just bought over the phone, so no ice cream. Maybe there will be a coupon included when the paperwork arrives.

Gib is our guide also.

From the vacation history you list, it looks like DVC would be a good deal for you, wherever you decide to buy.::yes::

When we went on the tour, they assumed we wanted the $30 in Disney gift certificates, when we would have preferred the VIP fast passes. If the fast passes are what you want, make sure they know that.
