Planning our 1st trip to WDW :yay:, staying at WL. I have read lots of reviews of the Whispering Canyon Cafe and I understand that it's a place where a lot goes on. Now, I think we're fun people, but we're more likely to enjoy watching other people being crazy than to actually be crazy ourselves. My DH is a quiet guy and my DS (age 7) can be shy at weird times.

Should we skip the WCC? Or is it the kind of place that we can choose our level of involvement?

(btw - DS puts ketchup on everything! popcorn:: )

If the antics interest you, go. If you are wanting good food, choose someplace else.

Personally, my fiance and I love the food there, and we will definetly take our future kids there because it is really fun. You can choose your level of involvement, but they do make it pretty fun. The kids there always seem to have a really good time. If your hubby needs ketchup, I honestly would bring a plastic container myself and put it in my purse b/c we aren't the kind of people who would want to shout "We want ketchup!" or have to deliver bottles of it to others later. If you don't like a loud dining atmosphere, skip it. But it is worth a trip and even if you choose to get involved, you'll probably have fun. We are shy people, but we (and almost every other table) did the hokey pokey last trip. It's comfortable to be goofy there.

We love WCC for the food and atmosphere. Like the PP said, you can choose your level of involvement. We enjoyed the antics but could easily have sat back and watched everyone else if we wanted to. I recommend trying it out and judging for yourself.

We love WCC......we think the food is great and the antics are alot of fun :thumbsup2. But as the pp mentioned, it can get rather loud when things get going so if you're not into a loud atmosphere, it might be best to skip it. But if you can handle a little noise and alot of goofing around, it will be a fun night :goodvibes.

We love WCC! This upcoming trip (May, 2001) will be the first trip we don't eat at WCC. Our kids really like it!

<<<<<I love the whispering canyon, yes, it can be loud and noisy but I think it's a lot of fun! Plus, The food was good on all three of our visits. You can participate or just watch, either way you will enjoy yourself!

We had a blast there as did ds8 and dd6. I thought the food was good too!

We all had bottomless milkshakes and had a great time. We would definitely go back.

Just another vote for "giving it a try." It is a fun experience. BUT BE WARNED .... when DS asks for ketchup .... everyone in the place will know he wanted ketchup ... and 7 or 8 bottles will arrive at the table. On second thought ... don't tell him I said that and encourage him early to get some ketchup!!!!!

I wouldnt miss it if I was staying at the WL again. Loved the food and the atmosphere. We went twice.

We tried it on our recent trip and it wasn't a good fit for us. The kids were somewhat entertained by the activities, but it was very loud and the food was not great. Or, perhaps I should say the food was uneven. My daughter's skillet was hot and tasty, my husband's skillet seemed like it had been sitting under a warmer for too long - dry meat, just lukewarm. My salad was good (spinach and butternut squash), soup (chicken and white bean) was very salty and processed tasting. While there were a few fun things to watch (wooden pony races, the ketchup thing), for most of the time it just seemed like the wait staff was shouting and that was supposed to be funny.

That said, we loved WL. A great resort.

On my first Adult trip with just DH and I we tried WCC. We have never stayed at Wilderness Lodge and thought we would try something new. I must say we totally loved it! I am not huge on a smokey flavor and we did the all-you-care-to-eat meal with the chicken and ribs it was ok for me but DH thought it was great! I should've got the sirloin, a person at the next table over got it and it looked delish! Anyways we were the first of the evening to ask for Ketchup and I had NO idea what I was getting into. We had to "Call out" for ketchup and she brought 15 bottles to the table!! DH and I got a chuckle out of it. Then we someone else needs ketchup they yell for it and you have to bring it over to that table yourself...all 15 or so bottles. I have a outgoing personality but DH is quiet and his face was quite red. He went through with it cause it was cute. Then they did a short version of the hokey pokey..I turned around but the DH just stood up. The kids were invited to do a parade with the pony sticks and yell YEE HAW...that was super cute obviously we didnt do that. Over all we really enjoyed our time there and CANNOT wait to take our girls there is September. We were celebrating our anniversary and the waitress brought over two small flutes of Champange with a Cherry and a cupcake with a candle in it. She took our picture and it was a nice surprise. (esp. since it was compliements of disney) I would say that it is really fun to try at least once...I didnt see them singling anyone out that didn't want to participate so I am going to assume that you would be fairly safe if you just wanted to watch for the most part. It was a good time you might be surprised that you like it. :thumbsup2

Hi,

I went for breakfast at the WCC on three of my four days at the WL ( the other day I had breakfast at the Crystal Palace) I went in just after 730am ( with a ADR) and was generally out by around 810am. I had the Canyon Skillet with OJ and coffee and one serving of the Canyon Skillet was enough for me. It is certainly quieter first thing at breakfast than later on. ( only 1 call of " we need ketchup " when I was there)

Regards

TBS

There is a small room in the back of the restaurant, with ~5 tables. It was much calmer and quieter in this side room. You could still hear all of the antics, but we weren't a part of them. Ask if you can sit there if you want to try the food and get a feel for the restaurant but don't want to be a part of the hustle and bustle.

I say skip it based on the horrible food...we had lunch there and didnt witness any fun and games except a pony race one time. No large drinks or small ones, nothing that I have read about online....and the food was horrible to boot. The cornbread was the only good thing about our meal there

It is a fun atmosphere whether you participate in the antics or not, however the food is crap IMO. We tried it for the first time last week and now we can say "been there, done that" and not ever go back. The WL is a beautiful resort though, which is part of the reason we chose to eat there.

We stayed at WL on our trip last summer and loved it.
We had breakfast only at WCC several times and we're not into all the fun & games...... we waited until someone got all the ketchup then dd snuck over & asked for a bottle. It was no big deal and the waitress took the hint that we just wanted to eat & leave. My dd did participate in the little horse race after the first visit. We thought the food was good.

BTW the little restaurant down the ramp, can't remember what it's called (Roaring Fork? maybe?) had pretty good food for a quick meal, too! Then again, we are not hard to please. :)

We went there for supper two years ago and it just wasn't a good fit. We were tired from a long day at the park and thought a sit down dinner would be nice instead of going to the snack bar. Part of the issue as well was that our CM waiter wasn't very attentive. We waited forever for our CM to take our order, to bring us beverages and then our food, which wasn't very warm or palatable. Service was pretty substandard. Realize it's a loud busy place, but he seemed overwhelmed.

I did read somewhere afterwards that you CAN tell your CM that you don't want the whole dining experience that they'll bring you your food in a more timely manner.

I realize that you can have poor service and a bad experience anywhere, during our stay at WL last week, we pretty much stuck to counter service and restaurants in the park. Had a GREAT experience at the Biergarden in Epcot!
