Hi Y'all I am wondering if we should rent a golf cart to use at fort wilderness? When we camp here at home we usually just walk around the campground, but our CG is only 69 sites big. I'm not sure if we (the family) realize how big FW is. I am thinking if we get a cart then it will not matter so much what loop we are in. Also can you ride your cart to the bus or boat. Is there a safe place to leave it for the day and pick it up when we get back? Is it better to ride the bus to the parks or drive? Sorry for all the questions, but you all seem to know more than the CMs. This will be our first trip to WDW in Sept 09 thanks for everyones help

Yes, you should get a golf cart. Do you NEED one, maybe not....but they sure are fun :thumbsup2 :cool1: There is golf cart parking at the marina, outpost and settlement areas.

We take the boat to MK and then I believe you can get on the tram and go to Epcot from there. Some people have no problems with taking the buses to the parks, other people would rather drive. You get a parking pass for the parks when you register so you wouldn't have to pay if you take your own car.

Thanks for the info. I think it will still be cheaper to rent the GC and camp rather than getting a hotel room. Having 3 kids puts us out of value range on the hotels. We thought about riding bikes, but youngest will be five. I think his little legs will get tired. Do you have any suggestions for loops for privacy or just overall goodness? Thanks again

If you are tent camping, for privacy loop 2000 is secluded. If you want to be close to the action tent camping 1500 is for you.
If you have an RV and no pets we like 1100, if you have pets we like 1600.
You can also tent in these for a bit higher price.
No matter where you are it'll be a blast.

all loops are fine. Just depends on what you are camping in.
As for renting gc you need to do it way in advance. If you don't make a ressy you may still get one, but you will waste a day doing so.

Enjoy the fort, oh and I think there are like 700 sites at the fort.

Thanks guys:flower3: We do have a TT 31ft w/1slide. We are going in Sept 09. I was going to wait to reserve until Jan. in case ther were any discounts aval., but It seems like if you are camping free dining is not an option. Thanks again for the info. y'all are great! There is so much info here :cool2:

It's not that big a place. Walk or take the buses!

I have bum knees (arthritis) and have no problem getting around the fort.

You'll be walking up to 3 miles in the parks in a day, what is an extra 1/4 mile?

Personally, I don't think the GC is necessary for normal activities or transportation when doing the parks. That's a pretty steep price just to get to the buses or boat to go to a park and then back again at the end of the day and you have to pick it up and drop it off. Now if you're staying at FW the whole day you might consider a one day rental to run around all the loops during that day off.

Since 1985 or so when we have been going to FW every couple of years we have rented a GC once and then for only like two or three days during our Park Hopping break. I can't ever envision renting another one.

we rent one every time we camp there and I can't imagine not renting one. they are so handy especially when arriving back from the parks, believe me you have walked enough for one day already and most of the sites are not close. it also makes quick runs to the store etc... much easier

Fifty bucks is a lot to spend on something you don't need. It's almost enough for dinner for two at BOMA! We spend every winter at the Fort and have never rented one, maybe that's why we can spend the winter there. We did just buy one to drag down with us, but I just can't see the $ 50.

I agree, it is a lot of money. We only get down to FW once every 2-3 years so we splurge and get the CG.

If you have the money get the cart you will not regret it.:thumbsup2

Is it $50 a day to rent a golf cart???

YEs it is:scared1: ,,,well, I'm not up on current pricing but if its not,,,its close.
We used to ride our bikes until we rented one and we were hooked. We try to go around 3 times a year so, we bought one instead of renting after that. They are not mandatory but, we like having one. We don't care what loop we are in, its more convienent when I want to go fishing at daylight, and at the end of the night when everyone gets off the boat from MK and is waiting to cram on a bus, we are at our site before they get to the bus..This all means little to some but, it makes our trip more enjoyable. A common statement on here is if you can afford it, you should get one,,at least once. Especially if you enjoy checking out other peoples setup and/or decorations ( looping ).

yes, if money is not a factor. We love having a golf cart.

We will hopefully be getting one. Looping sounds like a lot of fun especially at Halloween with all the decorations. Maybe I could trick or treat with it for margeritas???;)
