Should we rent a car mid-stay to do Universal?

We will be staying onsite for 12 days and we would like to go to Universal for 2 days sometime mid trip. We are wondering if it's worthwhile renting a car for these 2 days, or if a shuttle from WDW to US is more advisable? I'm not familiar with whether or not there is a rental car company that is anywhere near the Grand Floridian or any spot accessible by Disney transportation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We never rent a car at WDW, so I'm not in the loop.
