Should we really wear the wedding hats?

So excited to have all of this advice available to me. I'm starting to look into arrangements for our Disney honeymoon in Sept '06 (the wedding will be this fall) and I'm ready to go now! I've loved Disney for years, and the only vacations my future hubby has ever taken are our trips there, and he fell in love with it as much as I did, so it's only fitting that we go there for our honeymoon.

My question is about the bride and groom hats. I'm all for wearing them. Afterall, it will be our honeymoon. However the fiancee is not going to want to wear the top hat. Do you get as much attenetion wearing pins or t-shirts as with the hats? If you really do get more attention and possibly perks wearing the hats, I have to start trying to convince him now that they're a good idea.

Thanks!

If he's not all that keen on the top hat, maybe he will wear one of the baseball caps that say GROOM on it. I've seen them at David's Bridal and I'm sure you can find them online too.

When we were on our honeymoon, we wore the pins when we didn't wear our hats. While I wasn't expecting much "attention", I found that the pins weren't that noticeable. But that was just our experience...It seems to be different for everyone! :)

We ended up making our own hats in the end. We took the Bride/Groom baseball caps from David's...used another set of ears as a template...and created our own ears to wear while there!

No matter what you decide, remember to just have fun!!

Best Wishes!

WOW!!! Your first post!! WELCOME!!

Well, I can't speak from experience (yet) and my DH2B has said he won't mind wearing the hat. But, (I've heard of others doing this too), I offered to buy the bride and groom baseball caps and "alter" them by putting our own ears on them (made from that foam stuff you can find in all the craft stores now). That might be an option for you!

We compromised and only wore the hats for part of the honeymoon. Some days we enjoyed the attention and some we wanted to be more low key. :)

We did what ead79 did. We had a ton of fun wearing them, but sometimes we wanted to just enjoy the parks without the attention. We also tended not to wear them to the fancier places we we ate at, (CG, JIKO, etc) we just didn't feel it was appropriate.

I wore the bridal ears only one day to Epcot and did not get any special perks, (not that I was expecting any), but many congratulations. But then again, that could have been because I was wearing a "Disney bride" T-shirt.
DH did not wear his at all. I think the reason we got the perks we did get while not wearing the ears was because on our room reservation it was noted that we were getting married at WDW. Some of the perks I remember were getting the champagne glasses durring our PS at Cinderella's Royal table, and being upgraded to a boardwalk veiw room for our honeymoon stay at the Boardwalk Inn. Whatever other perks we got, we got while we were not wearing our hats.
Even if you are not going to wear the hats, I say get them anyway. They are not that expensive, you could get some cute pictures of just the two of you, and you'll be able to have them as a keepsake. Ours are hanging on our bed posts!

I loved wearing the hat. Granted my hair wasn't as cute as it could have been by trying to pin the hat in and my hubby complained his head was sweating too much. I thought it added to the excitement of being on our honeymoon. It was also very exciting to run into other couples who had their ears on too

Congratulations! Do wear the hats. It's really the only trip you'll be able to (barring Disney renewals, etc... but that's in the future :) ). We went for our honeymoon and got SO much attention. Not only did everyone tell us congratulations (CMs and random people alike!) but we had some special "perks" :) Off the top of my head....

Beauty and the Beast stage show - VIP seating and a free CD
Indiana Jones stunt spectacular - we were extras!
3 or 4 TS restaurants - free dessert (anything off the menu in most places!)
extra fastpasses for attractions (regardless of how many we were holding in our
hand, as they weren't scanned from our tickets)

It was so much fun! Regardless of what you do, enjoy your magical honeymoon! :Pinkbounc

PS :) For a few extra dollars, the headband style Minnie Ears are WELLLLLLL worth it! They are much cuter (IMO) with sequins on the ears; the veil is a nicer quality, and you don't have to deal wtih pins, etc.

We wore them a few days and had so much fun doing so. I'm sure if we got married in the summer Rick wouldn't have wanted to wear the hat all the time.

We are going to wear them when we get there. ON our 3rd day down, we are going offsite and getting our vows renewed. I wish I could do it on disney property, but they want WAY too much for my budget!

My DH couldn't wear the had (which I am sure he was thrilled with honestly) because it was too small for his head. He did get asked alot about it, but we still got tons of attention because I wore the wedding headband. What was really funny was when we met some friends there that we also on their honeymoon- her DH was wearing his hat and she was wearing his ears and we were walking and I guess someone didn't see my DH and we all heard a woman say "they do that at Disney" (meaning the multiple marriage thing) :rotfl2: we still laugh at that one.

I would wear them- you never know what might happen

I made our ears for our upcomming wedding. Pic is at the bottom. I took the bridal hats from Oriental Trading and hot glued and sewed Mickey ears off of an adult set of ears and a bridal pair. While we were disecting the ears I kept waiting for the Mickey police to show up and arrest me for distroying Mickey property, but they didn't. I tryed it with the foam first but they didn't have the sturdiness that they really needed.

::yes:: I tell everyone going to WDW for their honeymoon, WEAR THE HATS! My DH was so opposed to this before we went, he literally boycotted it. :rolleyes2 Then he said OK, I'll wear it one day to MK. Well we got so much attention that towards the end of the week when I said "I think I want to keep them off today," he was like "NO WAY, PUT IT ON!" :earboy2: My DH is not a Disney freak like I am either but we got a lot of perks when we had them on plus I think he liked all the attention from other people in the parks. People would just shout Congratulations or stop us and want to take our pic. It was a lot of fun! We also got the free champagne glasses from CRT, where we also got the best table in the place to view the fireworks, (highly recommended). Everywhere we went we got the best tables, or free champagne or desserts. We went to CP and they made the whole restaurant bang glasses until we kissed. At The Garden Grill (food wasn't great) they "performed a ceremony" in front of everyone, with Chip and Dale there. Then Dale tried to steal me away, it was really funny. Anywhere that characters were involved they made a huge deal of it. We also went to WinterSummerland to play golf and the guy let us have a free round, of course it was the middle of December and we were the only ones there so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Oh and we also got the best seats on a lot of rides too, most rides we were right up in the front. It was great, I can't tell you enough, WEAR THE HATS! :bride: :groom:
CONGRATULATIONS and have a great time! :wizard:

I think the hats idea is such a great one! The best advantage for me is that if he is wearing a Mickey grooms hat, my dh wont be wearing his pirate hat from Disneyland and talking in a pirate voice all day. <phew!> princess:

Definately wear the hats. Was just in Disneyland in June on my honeymoon before heading off to Hawaii and it is so much fun to have people coming up to you and congratulating you. Also be prepared for people wanting to take your pictures as well. We didn't receive any perks from disney and really weren't expecting any. Although I did have a lot of fun showing cast members my mickey mouse customized wedding ring.

The one thing that was annoying is that disneyland was completely sold out of the bride ears and we were constantly bombarded with questions as to where we had bought ours (by the way the answer was WDW when we got engaged) I wish I would have had some extras with me I could have made a fortune selling them and perhaps paid the wedding off completely LOL

Well, when he read the post my dh ran and got his pirate hat and I am once again married to a pirate :rolleyes2
Getting harder to convince him to leave the thing at home. It doesn't actually fit him anyway. :teeth:

Ah well, at least he didnt wear it at our wedding like he said he was going to :rotfl2:
