Should we "defund" NPR?

Actually, NPR has received loads of complaints related to his previous behavior and statements that he made on Fox News. That was the reason that they requested that Fox News to stop identifying him as an NPR employee. Unfortunately, that alone did not provide enough distance between NPR and his personal views.

And what about Nina Totenberg's personal views. What about Maura Liasson's personal views. She is identified as an NPR employee daily.

If she were sincerely concerned about the state of his mental health, then being the compassionate person she believes herself to be, she should have offered him his five sessions of counseling. I am sure that NPR has an EAP program. Most corporations do.
We provide our employees with EAP counseling. That doesn't mean that I am not free to fire someone if they violate our standards.

EAP is not a free pass.

You take things out of context. There was a concentrated attack on our country by the extremists. The extremists are still plotting. What makes the statement that they are plotting to kill us and fear is a natural instinct bigoted?
The part that makes it bigoted is when you assume that all 1.5 billion of them are out to get you.

I don't need references. This isn't a dissertation. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm wrong. I have an opinion based on experience and you have .. a.. report. And that makes your "right"? Okay.

Oh, I know the word liberal. No need to be elitist.

It has nothing to do with disagreeing with me. It has to do with disagreeing with the facts of the NPR sources that I posted. An independent group actually counted the sources and published a report. I could not care less about your opinion. I simply find it sad that you don't base your opinion on facts, that is what makes you wrong. And, obviously you didn't understand the multiple meanings of the word liberal, or you wouldn't have kept on the issue after it was explained. And, if owning a dictionary makes me elitist? I say bring on the elite!

And who might all those complaints have come from? I'm guessing from those on the extreme left. Surprise, surprise.

Additionally, that is your assumption. Not my words. I stated the terrorists hide, blend into society. They don't wear signs.

What do you make of Homeland Security? Are they bigoted too?

I have no doubt that she does. Shall we used the word "progressive"?

I don't deny NPR's right to exist. Let it survive on private contributions or sell air time. Let it survive without taxpayer dollars. And buy an Ipod! ;)

LOL! I own a brand new Touch. I'm still waiting for my son to show me all the bells and whistles. Seriously, Juan no longer appealed to the NPR audience. I'm guessing you are NOT a regular listener like I am. He'll be much happier with FOX and as you know, he's been on FOX now for several years. His very clear leaning is just not the NPR way. Federal law does not require that the employer give satisfactory reason for firing and it especially doesn't guarantee that everyone in the country agree. :) Juan had to know his time was almost up. He is a very smart man. Do you really listen or better yet, contribute to your local NPR station?

If NPR believes that either of them reflect poorly on NPR, then they could certainly find themselves fired. What's your point? Certainly it is not that an employer must fire everyone all at once. I know that my method is to get rid of the worst offender and hope that any other offender learns from the example.

EAP is not a free pass.

NPR is head quartered in DC. There is a law that prevents anyone from being fired based on their activities outside of work.

Who's assuming that 1.5 billion of them are out to get us? I certainly do not believe that, but it was the EXTREME Muslims who DID attack us on 9/11, in the name of THEIR religion. That's not exactly something that we can or should ignore. Do you not believe that they are still not plotting to attack us, AGAIN?

I don't think a person can be fired over beliefs no matter what they might be
.

Sadly, they can and do. Almost all states are employment at will states which allows the employer to fire someone for many reasons. There have been many cases where an employee is fired due to a bumper sticker on a car, drinking on their own time (when the employer disapproves).

There is a very interesting discussion of it in Lewis Maltby's book "Can They Do That." Interesting and somewhat scary read.
