Should we change our resort/room type? (POR or POFQ)

Hello All,

We are currently booked in a Royal Room at POR. This will be my daughter’s first trip and she will be celebrating her 3rd birthday while we are there! We are a family of three. I have been doing some research and found that the Royal Rooms were supposed to be refurbished however, due to the pandemic this never occurred. I wanted to ask your opinion on if we should switch to a regular room due to this? I am worried that we won’t have much room for our luggage due to not having the room under the beds and also room for our stroller. My daughter loves the princesses so I am torn! I also just found out that POFQ has a splash pad specifically for younger children so I am wondering if we should switch to this resort instead! Which resort or room would you recommend? Thank you in advance for your opinion!

Hello fellow Megan(with our lovely 1000000 ways to spell it ) :). The princess rooms are very farm from the main lobby. This would be my main concern. Also the multiple bus stops always bothers me. The pool at riverside is pretty nice with smaller regular pools around each section. I have not stayed at FQ yet. We have it booked for June. But when we visited it was very nice and the rooms renovated in 2018. The smaller size just made it easy to get around. The walking path from riverside to fq is super pretty and worth the stroll. The main pool has the dragon slide which is kinda awesome also.

I would stick with the royal room. First off, there is no major difference in room sizes between POR and POFQ. If your daughter loves the princesses, this room will be amazing to her! We've stayed at POR plenty and our girls were older when we finally got to the royal rooms and they LOVED IT! FQ is nice but hands down, the Royal Rooms are really cool. The only benefit to POFQ IMO is that it's a smaller resort so you will walk less than if you stay at POR.

As far as the refurb on those not being done, I would not sweat it, they were minor updates. These rooms and this area of POR is really magical.

We last stayed in the Royal rooms in 2019 and I thought they were fine. We are a family of 4 and we fit just fine with luggage. There is room next to the first bed and the front door to put a stroller and extra luggage can be stored in the "closet area" in the bathroom. We've never found it to be too cramped. Also, you can use the pool at FQ, pool hopping has always been allowed between POR and POFQ so you can go between the resorts.

I have stayed all over Disney property, with stays at almost every resort from value to moderate to deluxe to DVC villas. The princess room at POR is one of our favorites. It is just so magical, especially for a little girl. My daughter, now 10, recently asked if we could stay there again soon :) When we stayed in those rooms a number of years ago we had a stroller (which we never collapsed) plus an unncessary amount of luggage (I'm an over packer!) and we never felt cramped. The location of the royal rooms is great because you can easily walk to the French Quarter pool/splash pad or enjoy the quiet pool by your room or stroll over to the main pool at POR. I have also stayed in the standard rooms at POR and PFQ. They are both nice but not as magical as the princess rooms. For efficiency (and little legs), I do like the smaller size of the PFQ resort but that would not be enough to sway me from the princess rooms with a little one. Hope that helps :)
