Should We Camp Instead?

Hubby and I were supposed to be in Disney NOW, but due to an unexpected illness, we had to postpone our trip until May, 2013. We have a ressie at ASMu, we love that resort. Now I am thinking that maybe we should just take the plunge and tow our camper from CT and stay at the Fort. This is something that I have always wanted to do, but time wise, we just could never work it into our vacation schedule. This will NOT be a problem after January, as I will be RETIRED! Hubby is already retired, so my thoughts are, why not??
We are picking up our new truck on Saturday, getting a new Ford F150 with towing package, our camper, our 20 ft. little beauty is ready to use anytime. So now all I have to do is convince Hubby that this is do-able.
Any thoughts or comments on this?

The only reason NOT to drive down and stay at the Fort might be $10 a gallon gas. The Fort is absolutely the best Disney has to offer. Relaxation, access to the parks, activities, SPACE to move around (not cooped up in a single room), etc. Sorry about the illness, but that just may work to your advantage. Congratulations on the dual retirements. Now you are free to enjoy as much of the country as you wish with your own bed, kitchen and bathroom. And if you choose, the Fort has some of the cleanest bathrooms you will find anywhere. Also all the hookups at most sites, including cable. Enjoy the travel and enjoy the stay.

Absolutely doable, and absolutely worth it ::yes::

Hey we live in CT too and we do it every year. Last year it was with a 1 year old and 3 month old. Drove home with a teether and child with croup (that was a blast!). Next year it will be with a 2 and 3 year old. We drive down towing our 19ft BH with our van and would not change it for anything. It is Disney, it is the Fort, it is our home away from home!!

Another one here from CT. We tow our 24' TT with our van and wouldn't do it any other way. It's two vacations in one. I love staying in my own second home rather than a hotel room.

I would definitely go for it. It seems with the new truck and retirement, it is meant to be. How long of a trip are you planningand will you camp along the way?

I am not sure of what kind of weather you will be leaving behind but if it is really cold, I imagine being around the Fort in January might be a nice break.

Just let us know your husband's concerns and we will try to help alleviate them. In case you haven't figured it out, we might be ever so slightly biased in favor of staying at the Fort.;)

The ASMu is also our other favorite resort. As a matter of fact, if we get to go in December that is where we have reservations. It will be a shorter trip so it seems to make more sense not to camp. I still plan to visit the Fort to check out the decorations though.

Another vote to go to the Fort!
If you will both be retired by then, take your time going down. Take several days (or more) to get there and it becomes part of the vacation.
I love going back to the trailer instead of the hotel. I find that we are more layed back and relaxed. We love our trailer and do not feel the need to be constantly running.
Have a great trip no matter what you choose!
