Should we be social distancing?

If it were me, I wouldn’t be dining with any of them in that case. Their restaurant staff shouldn’t have said anything, but I’d dine alone in my room or outdoors to be safest.

In my county, there are limits on the number of people that can be seated at a table. The restaurants are responsible for enforcing this. The restaurant should definitely have said something because it's their responsibility.

Better not. But as in a plane, even with a mask you cannot social distance in the galley while working, I am conflicted. It's not a very good bubble to begin with, maybe the pilots as one bubble and cabin attendants as another?

I’ll just point this out to you since I just tested positive for covid. Decisions people make with this affect so many people. My family is now in quarantine which means my husband can’t work. That’s ok because he has days and will be paid. However, after my 10 days, he and my son are supposed to quarantine another 14 days. So it’s not just me getting it and feel sick but my family having to adjust their lives for nearly a month.
I’m sorry to hear this! How are you feeling?

This wouldn't work either as when we are doing pre-flight briefings in the airports, the briefing rooms aren't big enough for the pilots to distance from the cabin crew etc.

I'm an EMT in the UK and we have to social distance on our stations now, including the table. Our crew room has had chairs removed and only 2 can sit at the table. The recliners have little hospital tables with them and we are not allowed to move the chairs.

We also have to wear masks around station and in the cabs of the ambulance & are no longer allowed to eat in the cabs.

Problem is when you wear uniform you draw attention to yourself. No one bothered about us in the past but our manager has had many comments about us recently.

Here the governor has differentiated “while performing work duties” vs off-duty time. During your layover you are technically off-duty and socializing with non-household members. You would be subject to quarantine during layover so should spend that time in your hotel room with meals delivered.

Based on your responses, it sounds more like you want to justify why you should be allowed together rather than understand the rules in different places which frown on your activity. Ultimately you get to choose which path you will follow but don’t be upset when others disagree with your choice.

🤔 another flight attendant from UK post. Likely means nothing, but I find it interesting in the sudden uptick of posts. Is it just me? :confused3

Moving on ...

Even with a mask on, cabin crews will have a very hard time to socially distance themselves in the galleys and the jumpseats. They just aren't spacious enough. In the states, if a FA tests positive for Covid the crew members s/he was with for longer than 15 minutes regardless of a mask are put on 14 days quarantine.

Yes, you inherently run a risk going out for meals with them, but you have just spent up to 15+ hours in close proximity working (including drinking/eating) in a metal tube 35,000 feet in the sky so the risk of contacting it was already there. Sounds like you are an international crew, which of course is much larger than a domestic crew. If the majority of you are going out (there is always one slam-clicker*) it would be a large enough group that would make others wonder. In many states there are limits to how many people can sit at a table. Parties over 6-8 are forbidden. And good gravy, I know layovers and crews, libations are to be consumed. Add that in the mix and the table could become boisterous with the right group of people.

I would not become a slam-clicker, but I would likely just have a smaller group for dinner. Meet with a group of 4, the group you closely worked with on the flight. Even when going out with the entire crew, you'd likely only talk to those on your end of the table anyway.

*slam-clicker = crew member who you do not ever see on a layover. You see them go into their hotel room, hear the slam of the door, the click of the lock, and they reappear again for pickup.

I would put a lot money on that 90% of pilots aren’t wearing masks once the door is closed.

FA’s on the other hand, you probably are introducing additional risk by sitting closer together at meals.

You would win some money. 💰 (headsets, microphones, and masks don't work well together)

Best wishes for you and your family and sorry to hear you are positive :(

Why would your husband and son need to quarantine for 14 days after the 10 days are up for a total of 24 days? Am I missing something? The clock should start when the exposure is known.

If you're always around each other masked at work then yes meeting unmasked should mean you stay well apart from each other which eating at a restaurant during a layover does not allow for this.

According to cdc they quarantine after my case is over. They have recently added options of 10 days if symptom free, or 7 days if negative test. However, my son I s upstairs away from me so it’s possible he is considered isolated. I am staying in my room. My husband brings me things with an n95 mask on. Only problem is we only have one bathroom we have to share.

I don’t think k people realize this and it truly sucks for everyone. I cried when I-found out I was positive mostly because of the impact on my family.

Oh I understood that. It was that you said your husband and son would need to quarantine for 14 days more which would be 24 days total for them and your family would be impacted for nearly a month.

The last I heard yes you could exit quarantine according to the CDC after 10 days without a test or 7 days with a test negative test. But your family should only have to quarantine 14 days total. Not in addition to the 10 days you did. Unless I'm missing something and it changed? Which it could have, so I'm asking for myself and for you really.

 hugs to you, please don't beat yourself up :flower3:

They have to take it off to eat/drink on a trans Atlantic flight, so they are unmasked at work at times. There isn't a place for them to eat at a distance, it is the galley.

We were also told the family has a 14 day quarantine (or 10 symptom free under the new regs) after the date of last exposure so in this case the day the OP is no longer considered contagious.

We are with different crew on most layovers. For example I could go to New York tomorrow with one set of crew and spend the layover with that same crew and fly back with the same crew. And then 2 days later I could go to Los Angeles with all different crew expect one or 2 people who I might have been working with on the last layover.
This says you most certainly should be distancing while on layover.

Since the restaurant staff is “harassing” you perhaps you should pay close attention. Working for an airline you should know what your employer’s rules and regulations are as well as the different countries/regions.

No, that is not how it works. For family living in the same house, "Day 1" for THEM is the day the infected person took their own Covid test. At that point, that person had enough virus to be detected (and thus was shedding infective virus particles). They would start counting at that point, and have to wait until day 14 (Dec 24) to be "cleared."

If any of them develops symptoms, that starts another Day 1 for the purposes of isolation. By day 10, they are also cleared to return to normal activities.

So, to illustrate, let's say Dad takes a Covid test on Dec 10. He gets his positive result on Dec 12. Day 1 for HIM is Dec 10. He needs to isolate for 10 days. He can return to work Dec 21.

Day 1 for the rest of the family is Dec 10 also. By Dec 24, they can all return to regular life as well, or sooner (10 days later if they develop symptoms).

No one has been impacted more than 2 weeks.

If the family members want to exit quarantine early, and dad has been isolating away from them, they can all take tests on or after Dec 12. If the tests are negative, they can return to activities on Dec 21.

My family just went through this.
