How do you feel about this.
Would you like to see them put a heated pool on Castaway Cay or would it take away from the feeling you get on the island?

personaly I dont care but I know my wife likes pools better than the beach .... maybe a big pool with a lazy river would be nice

I haven't gone yet, but I could see the advantages. Especially in the colder months. I know that water temp at CC is one of my concerns for my Jan 06 cruise.

I wouldn't mind it if they did it on a different part of the island. One they aren't using now. That way the beaches can stay unspoiled but those wanting a pool can have it. I love lazy rivers so that would be cool.

Our vote would be no. There are heated pools on the ship, which are very uncrowded on CC day, yet the deck offers a great view of the island. Part of what Disney has tried to accomplish is to keep as much of the natural unspoiled island feel as possible. And make the island experience pretty different as compared to a WDW resort stay where you can visit fabulous water parks. I also think that a lot of the unused portions of the island are set aside as natural preserves, so I don't think they'd be able to develop a lot of it.

I also say no, in order to keep the rest of the island as wild as possible. With as many people on board how could you make one big enough when it is a cold day to be in the ocean? One thing I like about Disney is I believe they do care about the environment.

Well spoken, agree wholeheartedly..... :cheer2: :)

I can't see how they could do that, the size of the pool to be able to support 2000+ people would be huge, then you have the issue of little kids and having to have another pool for them, it would be a nightmare.

I would say no..since if you want to use a pool you can easily stay on the ship.

I vote no, as well.

The CC experience is a natural beach one. There are pools on the ship, for the sand and salt adverse. The logistics (and cost) of providing fresh water and electricity to heat the pool would be overwhelming.

If pools and lazy rivers are an indispensable part of your vacation, I would spend a few days at Disney World and experience the water parks. I have to say I love them almost as much as CC. The Beach and Yacht Club (if you can afford it) have the most wonderful pool experience with Stormalong Bay. :wizard:

I don't think so. You have the pools on the ship and the heated (by Oregon standards) sea on the island.

We were at Castaway Cay on January 2, 2004, the water was on the cool side of comfortable, but once you were in, no problem. Big problem is the air temperature, since the sea temperature varies very little.

I have to agree with the majority so far. If they put it on the island it would have to be far enough inland so that it wouldn't spoil the experience along the shoreline. You would be better off just using the ship's pools.

I say yes and make it accessible to those in wheelchairs. The beach is not wheelchair accessible and unless you have a very strong person to push the beach wheelchairs are all but useless. Frankly very little of CC is accessible if you have mobility impairments except for the walkways and that isn't any fun at all.

If anyone could pull off adding a pool to the landscape without losing the deserted island feel, it's Disney. I think adding a pool, some slides, a lazy river and of course some caves for the pirate treasure would be awesome.

The pools on the ship are small. Even when they aren't crowded, they aren't a lot of fun.

I vote yes - a lazy river would be great - those are always fun!

Anything to make more room for me at the beach, I will vote for -

While I enjoy the natural beauty of CC, Talking Hands does have a good point that the water is pretty much unaccessible to those who use wheelchairs.

Maybe a ramp which extends into the water?

They should definately make the island more "accessible" but I vote no for pool....I can get that at WDW....I like the natural feel of the island and plus, the island is not all that big to hold a pool for 2000 people. I am sure Disney could do with the technology they have, but I hope they do not....I do not want the island to be any more commercialized with lazy rivers and slides....

I SAY NO NO NO You are on the Island. If you want a pool go to a hotel for a vacation.

I've never been on DCL...

but I have cruised on a line that included a private island....I think the island should be left the way it is.

It is a beach--a pool does not make a beach more accessible. It provides an alternative which is already available on ship.

Perhaps an accessible pathway that leads directly to the water would be best versus building an entire structure that would be availble to anybody to use. Other than that, I do not know how to make sand more accessible.
