One would think people that high up on the food chain would know what's not worth saying and when to shut up. But, nooooo ............... open mouth, insert foot.

I would think that the pope, as leader of the Catholic Church would have the responsibility to speak about faith and reason. Too little has been said for too long. This so reminds me of the mindset about rape. How often is the victim blamed and the justification given that the rapist just couldn't help himself. He was provoked.

Not the same thing. When abortion clinics are bombed, which BTW is a rare occurance, the Christian community stands together and condemns the violence. Church leaders condemn the violence. Society as a whole rejects the actions. Everyday suicide bombers take to the street, threats of terror attacks are a contant concern, and yet one rarely hears Muslim clerics calling out for order or condemning the acts as against the Koran. The only thing I am hearing the Muslim leadership say quite vocally btw, is the 'Pope should apologize".
