Should men give up their seat to women or children on transportation in Disney?

I know growing up my healthy able bodied family (Mom,Dad, Sister and My self) would give up a seat to parents with small kids, especially at night. DH and I do it also, however next trip we will have an almost 2 year old. I'm hoping people will be as considerate to DS as we have been. However I am not counting on it nor would I ever in a million years expect someone to give up their seat since it will be our decision to stay in the parks well past bedtime and have a sleeping/grumpy kid to have to deal with. Who knows most of the time since we drive down we will just drive to the parks and skip dealing with the buses.

I have to say I am shocked at people's attitudes towards helping others and looking out for someone in need. Selfish comes to mind. I was taught to always help others when I can. Scares me sometimes when I think about the world we are raising our daughter in.

I think it is selfish to get on a bus and expect others to give you their seat.

I will volunteer my seat if I am able and see someone I think could use it. I do think it would be wrong of me to glare at the guy a couple seats over and expect him to get up.

I think one thing that maybe be helpful for newbies to know is that the buses are designed to hold a lot of standees. Maybe 40 people can sit on a bus, but you can pile a lot of people willing to stand onto a bus. If someone really cannot stand on a bus then it is wise to look into renting a car, or using cabs as needed.

I agree. I suspect there are lots of people who are new to visiting Disney World who don't realize that standing on the bus is even a possibility. It's totally understandable that they might get onto the bus only to realize that there are no seats available. And in that case, they either have to stand if no one offers them a seat or if that is not possible they need to ask people to please move so they can get off and wait for the next bus. But after you've done that once, you know that unless you are one of the first people to get onto an empty bus, there's a very real chance you could have to stand. If its crucial for you to sit, you need to either hang back if necessary so you can be one of the first people onto the next bus, or you need to avoid the situation entirely by taking a cab or driving a car.

It really comes down to "is it nice to give up your seat to someone who looks like they need it more than you" - SURE.

"Are you entitled to having someone give up their seat because you are female, have young kids, pregnant, or have grey hair" - NOPE

If you feel that you are going to need a seat because you are female, have young kids, pregnant, have grey hair, bad hips, tire easily - rent a car or take a cab. Its the only way to ENSURE that you get a seat.
