Should I use old ticket instead of buying for child?

Since last June, Disney policy now requires that all adult tickets purchased prior to 2005 must use the ticket tag system. It is accomplished quite easily as the initial ticket tag reading is stored in the ATS computer system, not on the ticket itself. The first person using it will become the base scan associated with the ticket in the computer. The gate CM is supposed to have the person sign the ticket (anywhere on the back or front). But being Disney, we all know that enforcement of that is spotty at best. :confused3

The only time your ticket does not need the tickjet tag done is when Disney has turned off the system to alleviate crowd control. Your ticket (all tickets, MYW and old ones) will go through the turnstile and have the admission deducted from it but the finger scan will not need to be done. You will not know in advance that this is the case as the system can be turned off and on several times or not at all in any given day.

So they are supposed to give you a marker pen (since regular pen wouldn't work, and even marker pen would wipe off) to sign your name? I'll report back in January :) I can't see that this would work very well. I guess they always had it turned off when our gang went through. I noticed that some people just can't make the finger scan work, and they just end up waving them through.

I think Rick is right that basically Disney cannot stop anyone from coming in with an old ticket that was purchased by someone else. But by requiring the finger scans on older tickets as of June, they're trying to ensure that whoever uses someone else's old ticket NOW becomes tied to that ticket until it is used up. You might says those tickets become "non- transferable-any-longer." ;)

Disney's policy is that tickets are not transferable but we all know many, many people who have not followed that policy (whether you agree with it or not, it happened). We also know Disney is not so great at enforcing its policies either. That was the whole reason for creating the MYW tix and finger scans -- to eventually end the dilemma. But as we've all seen, many days you are just waved through -- silly as it seems, it looks like many CMs are giving people the benefit of the doubt hoping guests use their tickets on the honors system.
