Should I upgrade from POP to CBR for under $200??

Discounts have released and I couldn't score anything for POP but I did see for under $200 I could "upgrade"to CBR - should I??? This is our first Disney Vacation. I'm traveling with DH, DS 6 and DD 4. My reasons for considering the upgrade is guaranteed Queen beds, water slides and hot tub. My reasons for not wanting to include construction and less appealing theme for kids. Any insight is greatly appreciated? Why is it so hard to choose?!?!

I'd definitely upgrade for $200. We've stayed at both pop and CBR. While we love both, my kids love the slide at CBR, and my husband loves the bigger bed and over head fan. I love that we have covered bus stops there. But we have great memories from pop too! We would always walk accross the bridge to AOA food court whenever e stayed there. They both have good merits but I'd upgrade. The crowds are so much more spread out at CBR.

That is a tough choice. How important is a restaurant to you? Or a gift shop? Do you mind maybe having a bit of a hike to the themed pool?

I've stayed at CBR once in a standard room. And I wouldn't stay at CBR again without paying the extra for preferred. I'd rather stay at Pop again.

A restaurant isnt extremely important as I have ADRs booked and am primarily eating at parks and a few other resorts. We will have a car so as long as I could drive to pool and park without much trouble that wouldn't be an issue. I originally booked CBR to ensure queen beds but then switched to POP to save money as we added a night and our flights ended up costing a bit more then originally planned. Now I'm torn.

We booked at CBR and ended up moving to Port Orleans (Jan 2018). After reading up on the CBR thread, the construction issues really put us off.

If we had a car and did not care about anything but having a place to sleep, fine. But in that case, we would stay at POP

We would like the ability to stay and have a quick meal at the resort, get around easy etc. Most reports coming out of CBR says we would not enjoy it.

Why pay more money for the mod if you are not going to be able to enjoy the amenities?

I wouldn't recommend CBR right now. Check out their thread (and others) about the construction.

How long is your stay? $200 more for a week's stay or longer, sure. $200 more for just 2 or 3 nights, nah, I'd stick with Pop. Have stayed at CBR and stayed there a month ago, for 7 nights. The construction didn't bother us at all. The queen beds are better, the room is bigger, and while the theming doesn't scream DISNEY!, I still like the place. Pop is my preferred value, but given the choice, I'd rather stay at CBR.

We stayed at CBR before the construction started and didn't really like it. - The many bus stops, custom house issue, pool wasn't great for us and always packed (during a non busy first week of Sept. time), and wasn't a fan of the food court. It wasn't a horrible place, but for us def. not paying more than a value for as it was too inconvenient for our pleasure.

Do they have a regular working food court yet? I know it was closed due to the construction and honestly if they don't have a regular food court, no way would I consider the switch for even the same amount...if they do, you want to try it out once and the price isn't much difference, I guess I probably would if I had never stayed there before...having already stayed there once I wouldnt regardless.

This is how we felt about CBR too, we stayed there right before the construction started and just really didn't like the resort. We like all of the other moderates though, and think the price difference is worth it to stay moderate over value for us and how we like to vacation.

I've stayed at CBR twice and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't do it with all of the construction going on.

We've stayed at both and I would not switch. We stayed at CBR before the construction and didn't like it. It's the only resort we've stayed at that we wouldn't return to so to us it would be a downgrade from Pop.

Not sure when you are going (maybe it was earlier and I missed it?) but they are refurbishing the rooms at Pop and the new rooms have queen beds.

I've been playing around online and I see I could do POFQ for $450 more and AKL for $700 instead of POP. Both aren't out of the question financially but I'm debating if it will be worth it or if it would be an irresponsible use of our money. Do you think it will truly impact our experience at all? This is our first trip and possibly are only.

If I could swing it I would always chose deluxe except maybe OKW and SSR. I Would go with AKL if it wont break the bank.

Only you can decide what is "worth it" to you. How much time do you plan on spending at the resort itself? Do your kids like animals? Personally I would go with AKL but my family would also spend enough down time at the resort to make it worth it to us. The resort is beautiful and you would have use of 2 pools with slides as well as the hot tub you talked about in your first post. There is also great dining options. We enjoy Boma and Sanaa as well as the Mara for grabbing something quick to go.
If you don't plan on spending much time at the resort then I wouldn't change from POP. It really comes down to how your family plans on vacationing, and if you'll get use from the extra amenities of a deluxe.

We are planning on one resort day for sure possibly 2. Planning a Disney vacation takes a lot. Now I know why people keep coming back and difference experience every time.

IMHO skip them both and book POR or POFQ

But to answer your question. A moderate with construction > value with no construction (all being equal)
