Should I Try Bistro de Paris?

I lived in France for a year and am a huge francophile. A year ago, I ate at Les Chefs de France and was extremely disappointed with my experience there. I found the food to be fair at best, but also thought my disappointment might be because I have higher standards than most when it comes to French cuisine.

I now know Disney ethnic food is 'dumbed down' and don't expect things to be authentic, but can enjoy things for what they are if the food quality and preparation are good.

So do you think I should give Bistro de Paris a shot? I love most of the signatures, and I've read the Bistro quality and experience is similar...is that the case?

Thoughts and opinions welcome!

So long as you are not expecting a Michelin-star-grade experience, you will be fine.

Depends on what your personal expectations/needs are.

It's a lovely meal, well prepared in most cases, sometimes a little more bland than some might like. All restaurants have off nights.

They have a menu de degustation which can be hit-or-miss; depends on whether it is something the chef orchestrated out of imagination, or if it was designed to 'burn off' produce he needs to get out of the kitchen. Nothing is ever substandard, but can be more-inspired or quite less so.

The waitstaff is often stereotypically blase. Maybe that would help the experience? :rotfl:

In the end, it'll have to come down to whether a solid, nice dinner is all you'll need to have a good evening, or whether you will be unable to keep yourself from comparing this place to Taillevent or Guy Savoy (Bistro will not score well in either contest). If it's the latter, then as the saying goes le jeu ne vaut pas la chandelle.

We had a lovely dinner at Bistro de Paris and enjoyed every bit of our degustation menu.

The service was attentive and very professional (although the server and we discussed his university plans... :teeth: ).

Authentic French? No. Nothing in the world showcase is authentic unless you are in the American Pavilion eating those lovely representations of our country.

A nice dinner with good service? Yes.

We've enjoyed every meal we've had at Bistro ... it's certainly a step up from Chefs. The food has been wonderful and the service very good - it's a lovely setting as well.

I think that Bistro is definitely the best restaurant for both food and service in any Theme Park anywhere, and is probably the best restaurant, other than V&A, in WDW including the non-Disney Resorts.

I don't think it compares to the meals we had in France but it's definitely a decent place to eat and a huge step up from Chefs downstairs.

Agree with what's been said so far. Much better than Chefs, but not 5-star dining either. Clearly the best of the Epcot restaurants--.

Loved it on our anniversary! We had a wonderful server who talked to me about wine (even though I know a little bit) and it made us decide to do Paris for a vacation.

It wasn't the same as what I had in France, but very enjoyable nonetheless. I didn't like that we had a table of screaming kids at 9:45PM, jumping and running around, with balloons blocking the view of the windows. (I love kids, don't get me wrong-just hard to enjoy a wine flight when you are worried that one of them will dump it over on your new slacks.)

Food was very good as far as I was concerned, and even my DH, who is simply a steak and potato man, thought it was good. And compared to some other restaurants, decently reasonable for a special meal.

Thanks for the replies everyone. If I can talk my travel buddy in to it, I'd like to give it a try!

Yes, thank you for all the input and for the question. My DH and I had a sub par experience at Chef's. The food was worse than what I cook at home and it was very crowded and loud downstairs.

Maybe I can now convince my DH that we should try Bistro. He was so disappointed at Chef's, he said he didn't want to eat in France again.

I plan on trying Bistro for the first time later this year, and am really looking foward to it.
