Should I Treat Myself Or Save The Money?

If it were me, I would use it on the house. My dh had a business trip in Orlando this past May. The kids and I went with him and went to the parks while he worked. My kids are very young and I enjoyed the time with them, but I did miss having my dh there. It would have been more fun for me. I would just rather vacation with dh.

Also, I know that if I had several things I wanted to do with the house, it would be driving me crazy not to get some of those things done - especially with a new house.

I think your answer lies in which is more important to you right now. Maybe you need a vacation or maybe you are like me and would regret not spending the money on the house.

Another option - if you are looking for a vacation and it doesn't have to be Disney, why not find something less expensive, then you could use some money for the trip and some for the house.

Also, I would be using a yearly bonus that I get from work, I have not gotten it yet and won't until next week (which I would be gone if I go to Disney)..so I am not sure how much it would be.

Never spend a bonus that you don't have yet...my BIL learned that the hard way (counted on a bonus & bought things, then the bonus was about 1/4 of what he expected it to be...this is a dangerous game esp. with the economy being what it is right now). I would start planning a nice trip for next year when your DH could go with you (I've been w/o my DH & it's just not as fun). Whatever your bonus turns out to be I'm sure you can stash some away for WDW. With more time to plan & save you can work on the house and have your WDW trip later, too.

I would save it for a family trip for next yr. I am sure there are plenty of things to do in Tennessee. Enjoy your time off.

I can see both sides, and I can see how hard this decision is to make!

On the one hand, using the money for the house seems like the most responsible thing to do. It is the constant; it is your home and will be the permanent variable in all this. On the other hand....a vacation can do so much to recharge and re-energize! Many times a vacation is just truly needed! Also, I tend to always lean toward the 'striking while the iron is hot' theory ever since my mom died. My mom retired from being a teacher for nearly 40 years. She and my dad purchased an RV 1 year before her retirement with big plans of travel....they had a list of places they wanted to see and visit. Three months before she retired, in March (school year was ending in June) she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She died in July. Never took the RV out, never got to follow through on any of her plans.

Life is short. Don't put things off. HOWEVER, life is full of responsibilities also. This is a really hard decision, I certainly don't envy you in making it. Good luck, I hope you can gain some insight soon so you don't drive yourself nuts over it! If you don't go, planning it for the next year can be a lot of fun and can build up the anticipation....if you do go, have a blast and come back refresed and renewed!!!

Your spur of the moment trip will cost $1800. You have $600 saved. Your bonus which is not even coming until you are in Disney will give you $500-$1000 to put toward the trip. Where is the rest of the $1800 coming from?
You still need $300-$700?

Just my opinion-I wouldn't spend $1800 on a vacation for just me and my child when I just went to WDW last year and I bought a new house.
Why do you have to give your FIL a "big chunk" of your bonus-did you need to borrow money from him for some reason?

Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

So hard to wait i know.

I would spend part of bonus on house and save part in bank for next year Disney trip. So much enjoyment for my family comes from looking forward to, counting down, planning, etc. the next trip. Could you make it early in 2009--its not that far away..January is 180 days out...

Well, FYI, we didn't borrow ANY money from my FIL. I have 600 that I have earned working online. I need a total of 1800, this includes tix, hotel, eating, souvenirs, and gas. The other 1200 would come from my bonus. In the meantime, all of one week, that would be on a credit card which I would pay off as soon as I returned hom.

N2Disney...have you made a decision?

Just curious if you've started making plans or have decided to wait until next year.
