with the new preferred rooms I'm worried I won't get a room close to Everything Pop and the bus stops. Would it be worth it to pay the extra 90$ for the trip to get a closer room, and will it even guarantee me a room close to the front of the resort? I don't care one way or the other about being by a pool but are some of the hotel rooms in the 60s pretty far away from the building? I've only stayed there once in the 70s building (next to the giant bigwheel?), and the distance from there was excellent. Is there any points in the 60s building that are farther away from the front than the 70s building? I hope i'm making sense. what would you do? Pay the extra or hope for the best? Thanks for the info!

There are rooms in the 70's that are closer than the farthest 60's - that's why they changed the preferred sections.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for preferred.

I was there last month and had a room in the "Preferred" 60's section. I have arthritis and thought after a long day in the parks a shorter walk would be much appreciated. Honestly I wouldnt pay the difference again. It seemed no matter where you were the walk wasnt a big deal. Hope that helps!

I stayed in the 50's section last year and had no problems with any walk to Everything POP or any other part of the resort. The extra cost for a preferred building to me would be a waste. I don't recommend it.

Well, I'll be the lone voice of dissent here! We stayed at Pop a year and half ago in the 80's section. We felt like it was kind of a hike to get to the pool and foodcourt. Especially at night when it was cold (this was February) and the kids were wet from the pool. Last month, we stayed in preferred and were in the 60's building. We loved it. We had a view of the Hippy Dippy Pool, we were actually on the third floor above the kiddie pool to be exact. We just loved being right there. This was only for four nights however so it only ran us $40 more. We knew we would be spending quite a bit of time at the main pool this trip and also eating at the food court. So for us it was worth it. However, any location within Pop can't be more than a 7 minute walk to the main area. You will love Pop regardless of what section you stay in!

I've stayed at POP in the 50's, the front of the 70's and the back (lakeside) of the 70's. In all three instances I think I was closer to the main building than some of the people in the 60's. I would not pay extra for a preferred room.

Saying that I'm staying in a preferred room at POP next week, but only because it was sort of a spur of the moment trip and one preferred room at POP was all that was available. All the values (POP, as well as All Stars) and all moderates were fully booked. With the new preferred room changes I hope I don't get one of the same rooms I paid a standard rate for previously.

It is my understanding that as of May 1st this year 2 of the 50's buildings(the 2 nearest the 60's buildings) and both of the 70's are now prerrred rooms.

That leaves 1 50's building and the 80's and 90's buildings as the standard rooms.

Here is a map of Pop:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/pop.htm

As you can see the standard rooms are a bit of a walk.

Have fun at Disney!

Haven't stayed at POP yet, but have done 2 other values, and I believe the resorts are set up the same way.

We only asked for standard. The first time staying, it didn't seem so bad to be on the far end, but the 2nd trip, it caught up with me.

We are still trying to decide between POP and a cabin this next trip, but I still won't pay the extra money for a preferred. Plus, I need 2 rooms, and to me that's asking a bit too much.

I'll just suck it up and walk, I need it anyway.

I wouldn't pay the extra $. We stayed there in January and after walking around the resort, I would say that the walk from one building to either the pools or the classic hall isn't really that bad. The only walk I found that was long was from our room to our car. I don't understand WDW's reasoning for the change in preferred rooms. What is it, all the sections except 80's & 90's? One of the 90's buildings is closer to the classic hall as well as the buses than one of the 50's buildings. It doesn't make sense to me. We are going back to the POP in September and I was going to make a request but my kids want to be surprised to see what section we're in. If the standard rooms turn out to be in the 80's & 90's section then my kids will be pleased because they will be close to a pool. I just don't get paying the extra $10/night just so the walk isn't as bad. Heck your in DISNEY!!! Who gives a rats A$$ if you have to walk a little bit more to be closer to the food court. Are you not walking most of the time in the parks anyways? Besides these days I could use the exercise.....I'm not getting any younger. Save your money and use it to buy yourself something nice.

Personally I wouldn't pay for the extra either. Really it isn't very far no matter where you are.

The one thing I do definately like about POP is that even the building farthest away is still close to the bus stop/food court. :thumbsup2 We were in the 80's building...one of the furthest ones and the far end of the 70's in Nov...both times, the walk was shorter than some of the "close" buildings at other resorts, like POR and C. Beach.
(Then again, until you've stayed at Trinidad South at CBR, NO walk is a long walk.) :rolleyes2

Linda, That is exactly what I'm worried about. I booked before the 50s and 70s turned preferred, and no one seems to know the 'truth' about which rooms are preferred in those buildings (everyone's got different answers). I would be somewhat upset if I got stuck in 80s or 90s, and requests are just that, not guaranteed. My boyfriend and I have talked about it 2x and still can't decide. He says he'd be somewhat mad if we got stuck in the very back of the 60s building, after paying the extra. But at the same time we don't want to get put in the 80s or 90s. I'm just so torn. Also I'm afraid if i modify my ressie now things might get lost (read about me ressies getting lost after changes, etc.) Do your PS ever get effected by this? I'd be so upset if my PS got dropped because of this. AAAAH! Such stress! :teeth:

Thanks.

Went on the Disney Website and spoke to a CM via the live chat. I asked about the whole 'Preferred Rooms' at POP. She told me that yes the preferred rooms had changed. It is NOT all of the 50's, 60's & 70's sections it is just parts of them. She told me that the preferred rooms are the rooms that are close to the food court, transportation, laundry facilities and playgrounds. She also told me that some of the standard rooms do face the lake. She did not know the exact room numbers but she did tell me that there are standard rooms in all sections as well as the preferred rooms in the 50's, 60's & 70's sections. I was so confused about this topic because there was so many conflicting stories. Since I spoke to a CM myself I feel that I now have the truth about what sections have what. Hope this info helps!

I would definitely NOT pay for a preferred room at the Pop.

I just got back from the Pop on Monday and I only booked a standard. At check in after receiving the 80s building I requested a change to a closer location. I was given the option of 50s or 70s. I received a view of the lake as the pool is considered preferred. I would not want a pool view at the Pop because of the noise. Our location was perfect as it was close to everything and very quiet.

Check out my review - A Pop Century Review for details.

Count me in as a "NO" vote too! Stayed at the POP 2x & returning this July. I just dont get the perferred room thing. Anywhere you stay at the POP has its good points & bad points. It all depends on what you want...but really nothing is worth the extra fee. :)
