Should I switch from WL to AKL?

Driving myself crazy BUT do you think I should consider switching from WL to AKL for my trip at the end of the month? I have two young kids who'd love the animals and would probably use the playground that isn't available currently at WL. We have stayed at WL before but not AKL. I really wanted to do WL during Christmad but a little worried w construction. Love the boat convenience but it's not so huge that I think we'd miss it except on MK day(s). We have hoppers and would return to resort for naps early pm and then switch parks. Also doing MVMCP. We don't want to do whispering canyon cafe or artist point, and we've already been to roaring fork. We love Indian food and would likely try Boma for breakfast, Sanaa for lunch and Mara for dinner if we stay at AKL. Ok... Thoughts? Thanks!

ETA: price is almost exactly the same for standard view.

If it is the same, I would switch. I realize the noise level would not be a concern for some but with kids that take naps I would change unless you could get the side where you can't hear the noise according to some. To me I don't like staying where construction is going on. But that is me. I never stayed at the AKL at Christmas but have stayed there. We like Boma and Mara which I assume you mean the counter service. I like Indian food but did not like Sanaa ( I have been to Africa and India so I had the real food that Sanaa serves. But that is me. You can always goes over to the WL to visit. Enjoy This is just my views only.

If you want a playground, I'd say switch. The boat is probably slower than the bus from AKL. AKL's Christmas stuff is amazing as well.

I think the place WL wins out is that it is a smaller resort. Because of the shape of AKL, it can be very walk heavy. If that would be a concern, keep that in mind. Asking for "near lobby" is delightful, but everyone asks for that at AKL, so the odds of getting it seem like something that should not be relied upon.

Because you have stayed at WL already I would recommend switching. AKL is a great resort, both my wife and I loved the whole theme. It's a great resort to explore both inside and out. And than of course there are the animals, if you can swing a savanna view get it if not no shortage of areas to view them. They have s'more making, night vision binoculars, and hopefully when you ask the cast member out on the pathways for their cards; they are still passing them out. It is a card with a map showing which country they are from and a little explanation. We spent a good amount of time talking with them. I am always interested in hearing where they are from and how it is they found their way to WDW, have they done much traveling before this, and what they plan on doing when they get back home. Could be fun for your children to collect the cards. And Boma is my second favorite place to eat, after Ohana.

I would stay away from WL during construction. It's going to be huge. And AKL is a great resort. Love the dining options there too. Mara is a great CS. Loads of seating and watch for their dinner specials! Very good. Love Boma & Saana. Saana is a good option for lunch because it's right on the savanna. Good viewing. At night you can't see much.

Another vote to make the switch! If there is a room available I would grab it before you don't have that option any longer.

I agree with everyone else and would switch. We love WL (especially at Christmas time), but AKL is great as well (IMO). The resort is beautiful with a nice holiday atmosphere and both Boma and Mara are favorites of ours (haven't tried Sanaa). I think you'd have a great time. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the great feedback! I made the switch this morning. Really so excited. Well still take a visit to WL to see it decorated but definitely feel like switching was the best decision this time! Thanks again!
