Should I submit my "spooky" photos...?

At my job, we have a nice employee reading lounge. The management is always requesting that employees with artistic talents submit their art for display in the lounge.

My question is, should I submit mine...

The last several employees to submit were painters who have actually had stuff on display in galleries. To be honest, their stuff is not my cup of tea, but I appreciate that they are gifted and their work is very good. Their work also has sort of light, fluffy universal appeal, mostly abstracts and stuff that looks like Picasso.

I on the other hand, take digitally color altered photos of old graveyards. A few of the people here have actually told me I was morbid but others (and some people here and on my other message board) have said the pictures were gorgeous.

I've won a few $100 prizes through photo contests at work as well, but not with my "spooky" shots.

Art submissions here are open to everyone who does every style of art. Photography included. My only concern is that the fact that the pictures include some shots of old headstones and statuary in cemetaries might freak some people out so badly that they ask that the pictures be removed.

I also plan to include a few artistically done shots of my dog and some other "nature" scenes. But the BEST photos I've done are of cemetaries.

What do you all think? Should I go for it? If I do, my photos will be up for hundreds to see, and possibly sent to our other offices via email as well.

Here are some of the photos in question

Not all of them would be used. If do go for it, I would also like ideas on which ones look the best.

Thanks all!

Sheri

I couldn't see the photo's, it asked me to log in as the owner.
They sound cool, though. Maybe start with some that aren't as "morbid" as others, just to give people a taste of your work.

Personally, I don't think that's morbid at all, but I like graveyards, especially ones in and around Boston. When I worked in Boston, I used to get dropped off an hour early, and used to stop by the Old Granary to look around every now and then.

Couldnt see photos either

But an Artist is an Artist, submit!

Nice, I like them. The angels are very nice; especially the one in purple (?).

I think your pictures are WAY cool! I've always like graveyards...especially old ones. I would put them up. You have agreat artistic eye.

I think the pics are fine.

Sheila, does this mean we should have a DIS meet at Hank's grave here in Montgomery? :p

Esme - I like them, death is part of life. I think you should submit.

I just emailed the person who coordinates this and asked if I may submit my photos.

Now the next question...

Would it be weird to have the spooky photos AND the other misc. non spooky photos? Should I just stick to a theme?

Sheri

I agree, these are beautiful. I didn't get any sense of morbidity just by looking at them. I did get a feel for the architecture and the feeling of peacefulness.

BTW, I really like the orange one.

Saw them all.... very, very, cool....

Saved Graveyardgrey as my wallpaper!

Would stick with theme, if all art together... the only negative with that is you might be more foolish comments about "dark" theme... but what the heck? :)

I couldn't see the photos either. Maybe you have it locked to the public?

I think you should go for it anyway. It's a good way to get some exposure. Let us know if people can get into the pictures.

Thanks! :)

I asked a co-worker who knows art fairly well. She suggested I go with the more scenic peaceful shots, such as graveyardgrey.jpg and avoid things like "cross", since it is a little more dark and may be percieved as morbid, where the others could be percieved as tranquil.

I think that is probably a good idea.
Also, thinking I may do a few different themes, but have all of each theme together (ie. all graveyard shots in one area; all Monty shots in one area etc.)

I think they are great!
I don't think it's odd,b ut then again I grew up with my dad taking photos of us when we visited my grandmother's grave. I thought everyone did this as a kid! lol...I have no clue why did that though. I guess I should ask! lol

Excellent ideas....

If it does end up working out, you will have to promise to take some photos, of, er, um... your "photos", on display!

PS: Does SSB owe any fee for using your "graveyardgrey" as wallpaper? ;)

Lots of history there. I love them.
My favorite is the cross picture on the first page.
Not sure if that would be good for work but it is perfect for a photo contest.
