Should I ride CA Screamin?

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I found Space much less scary than Screamin'.

Hee hee. Have to watch out for those pink, swirly deathmobiles!

Anyway, I have not been on Space Mountain in years. I gave up those days of reckless abandon long ago... but didn't I hear several years back that when they refurbished it, they actually made it faster and scarier? Yeah, I think I will pass on that action. The original version of it was too much for me! And I can believe it was less scary than Screamin'. You know what I will never, ever ride? The Orange Stinger in DCA. We sat and watched that thing bob and weave, up and down, turn sideways, spin around the orange in fast rotation and nearly got nauseous just at the mere sight of it. No way.

I HATE big drops, so I probably won't ride California Screamin' either. But then again, this may be my only trip to California for awhile...

Not to get off the subject too much, but what other attractions have big drops? I saw a few posts talk about the drops in Pirates...how bad are they? What about other attractions?

I will be 100% frank with you - if you are like one of my good friends who is VERY nervous about any drops in any ride, you will not like the drops in POTC at first. It is very easy for those of us who don't mind them to say that they are no big deal, but to some people they are a big deal. I used to be terrified of POTC years and years ago because I made those drops bigger in my mind than they actually were, but I conquered the fear and now love the ride and can't do without it. But I totally understand where you are coming from. My one friend will NOT ride POTC at all - and she is 41 years old - because of the drops, and another friend of mine clings to my arms and shuts her eyes when she knows we are about to drop, but then she is fine after the drops are finished. It really is worse in her mind than in reality.

The ride with the REALLY big drop, of course, is Splash Mountain, and that drop is a little much for even me. But Pirates is such a good ride, I would hate for you to miss out on it. The drops occur at the very beginning of the ride, one after another, and there are only TWO of them to worry about. The rest of the ride is smooth sailing. The first drop - maybe about, oh, 20 feet or so, I am guessing - is longer than the second one. And then there are no more.

Thanks for your response. I knew I would ride it anyway (and would be mad at myself if I didn't) but I always like to know what I'm getting into! Our Pirates here at WDW has only one drop and it's pretty tame.
I do go on Splash at WDW, I just hate the drop!

You are a lot better off than my 41-year-old friend who refuses to ride POTC now - mind you, she USED to ride it years ago, reluctantly, but will NOT go on it now! She just cannot hang with those drops! I had heard that the DLR version of POTC was better than the WDW versions, but since I have never been on the WDW version, I only know the DLR one. Now I understand - it is because there is only one drop in the WDW POTC ride! That is why ours here in DLR is better! Yes, I am with you on Spalsh Mountain. Great ride for me up until the end, and all throughout it, I know it is coming and I just can't cope! At least, on POTC, they get the two drops out of the way up front and you can sit back and enjoy the rest of the ride. But with Splash Mountain, it is the opposite - enjoy the ride, but dread the drop at the end all the way through it (IF you are like me and hate big drops).

Anyway, apparently Pirates is closed for the last two and a half weeks of October this year, so if you happen to be at DLR during that time, you will miss it anyway.

Here are two questions you need to ask yourself:

Do you mind heights?
Do you mind long drops?

If the answer to these questions are no, then don't ride it.

I'm an upper 40's person who adores Rockn' Roller Coaster at WDW, and all of the other Disney coasters - EXCEPT for Expedition Everest, and now California Screamin.

Why? I hate heights of any kind. CS is out in broad daylight so you can see how high you are going. With RnRC you're in the dark the whole time and can't see how high you are/are not. :woohoo:

I hate big drops. My tummy isn't made of steel anymore. :sad2: And since I had my eyes closed the whole ride I couldn't tell if/when we were doing big or little drops (except for the big ones - you just know!).

I loved the loop - only fun part for me. And it was a very smooth ride and it didn't bother my back, either. Just remember that Disney just loves to play mind games with you on this one by killing you with the anticipation when you're waiting for blast-off. :scared1:

I came off of the ride with a migraine, dead butterflies in my tummy and nerves of noodles. And I was more than happy to take photos of my family riding the thing oodles of times afterwards.

At least I can say that I rode it before I turned into wimpy mommy again! :lmao:

For those that have been to WDW, is the take off like that on Rockin Rollercoaster? If so, there is no way I can do it when we are there in August. I came off of that so green.

Yes, it is the same.

Expedition Everest broke me out in a cold sweat. My 60 year old mom did better on that than me!!

Join the crowd! We got stuck on the outside part for about 20 minutes, and I was ready for a stiff drink when we finally got off, and it was only 9:30 a.m.!

I am so glad you posted this. I was pregnant during every single trip to DL, so I was unable to try any of the bigger rides. I think I will give this one a try. I love roller coasters, but I don't care much for heights. The Sunwheel terrifies me. But, if they're going fast enough, I don't notice the heights as much.

Has anyone here been on the NYNY coaster in Vegas? How does this one compare? I know the LV one isn't very scary, but it would be interesting to hear if they're similar at all. I've been on that one numerous times.

Ok, I have been thinking the same question that is asked here. I am 45 and have always loved roller coasters. Space Mt. was always my fav at DL. Well, on our last trip in December I got the chance to ride SM for the first time in 12 years, and let me say, either I am becoming a wimp as I get older or it is faster.
I was planning to go on Calif. Screaming for the first time the next day and just couldn't.
We go back in December, I can't decide if I should try Calif.Screaming or not.

Must have been torture, looking up at the Cove Bar from where you were....not that they would be open that early, but still, there's booze in there. :goodvibes
