Should I request a specific building at OKW?

We're leaving for OKW in a little more than 2 weeks. Last year was the first time we stayed there. We stayed in building 25 (I think) & it was pretty convenient to the main building. DH just asked if I had requested a specific building this time. I didn't because I thought we would just see what we got.

We've only stayed there the 1X & I thought maybe we should just try & experience different areas. Now I'm not so sure. Should I request one - are there better buildings than others? We will have a car. I know I'm not guaranteed even getting one if I request it. We're staying in a 2BR.

Any advice?

I would say it is better to request more general things than a specific building. We thought we always wanted to be on Miller's Road, but after going to South Point, we liked that too. We have stayed everywhere except for the Turtle Pond area, and I can say there are no bad rooms so far! You will be less likely to get a specific building than some other more general request.

I always request an area rather than a specific building. The last 2 years I requested Turtle Pond Road, water view, non-smoking. We got great views in buildings 31 & 43. I like this area because it is quiet. They have the second door into the bathroom in the 1 or 2 bedroom (Turtle Pond, South Point & bldgs 62-64 have this, others only 1 door through the master bedroom). We always rent a car, so distance to the main area is not an issue. When my mom is with me, I request first floor to avoid alot of steps. Second floor isn't bad but third floor is a long way up! (especially with luggage). Only buildings 62 to 64 have elevators. Have a great time! :D

Are you DVC members? Do you expect to be regular OKW visitors? We are, just joined last year, so we're hoping to stay in each of the 4 different areas (Miller's road, Penninsular road, South Point, and Turtle Pond-those the 4?). Then we'll know the pros and cons of all the different areas. I figure if we get too hung up on one particular area before we've tried them all, some trip we won't get "our" area and we'll panic (or at least I would). How's that strategy sound? At least it keeps DH going back (although since we joined, he needs far less prodding from me than he used to).

Great advice here. We have yet to get an area we DIDN'T like. We love #55 and #56 (Southpoint) and we have loved #35 (Turtle Pond). I am most concerned with ground floor (grandparents) and non-smoking.

Yes, we also just joined last year after staying at OKW on rented points.

I thought the same thing you do. Stay in all the different areas and see which one we prefer. That is why I didn't request anything in particular. I figured we would just take what we got & see how we like it. We may even like it better than last time.

I guess we'll see. :D
