Should I plan a different trip?

I have been fortunate enough to have already taken the kids to Disney 4 times. They are now 12 and 9 years old.
We are planning a trip this august to Disney staying at beach club ( have never stayed there).

I'm starting to feel I should show the kids a bit of the world and try a different trip.
Does 5 trips to Disney seem like too much? Or is it good to do one last Disney trip while they are still young and save other destinations for when they are older?

Any opinions ?

Thanks

What do the kids think? I would take them where they want to go if you are so inclined. How about Universal? Once we took the kids there they liked it just as much as Disney.

For me, I think it would depend on how they felt about it. Are they still enjoying Disney or do they seem a bit "been there done that"? Is there any other place they have shown interest in that you haven't been to? Do they like new things in general or prefer something more familiar?

If they enjoy Disney, and you enjoy Disney, I wouldn't worry about how many times you've been!

Have you done Disneyland? We are big Disney Vacation ppl (my kids are 6 and 8 and have been to WDW 3 times and DL once). We took a trip to DL for a "change". It was awesome!! There's enough similarities that I still got my Disney fix, but enough differences to make it new and exciting. Cars Land was a big hit with our family and some of the classic rides are much better at DL in my opinion (Pirates, Space Mtn). It's so easy to park hop and get around. We loooved it. In fact, my DH prefers DL. There's a lot of other things to see and do in California too if you wanted some non-Disney adventures/activities. Our last 2 trips were to WDW and we decided that our next one will be back to DL and I can't wait!!

Thanks for the tips...DL sounds like a great idea.

The kids still enjoy Disney all look fwd to it...they have expressed in Hawaii and a trip to NYC.
NYC doesn't sound great to me though as I'm a single dad and the city would be really chaotic by myself.

We really enjoyed Disneyland. It's a fun change to see the differences and compare it all and it is much easier to navigate and plan. I thought I'd miss WDW, but I really didn't at all. Radiator Springs racers in Cars Land is my favorite Disney ride of all time! It's like Test Track, but waaaay better imo. You could stop in CA on your way to Hawaii...ok, maybe that's overly ambitious, lol.

The nice part about Disney World is it can grow with your kids. I went to Disney about every 2 years when I was growing up and it never got old. But we also would change up our trips as we got older. For instance, we never really did the water parks when we were little so when we were teenagers were tried Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. Or we would try a new resort, or stay at our favorite resort but take advantage of it more than we had in the past. We always went to MK though, that was non-negotiable. :)

That being said, if you and your kids would prefer something else there's value in that too! My family loved Disney and if we were going to spend money, that is where we went. And (shockingly) that is how I've been as an adult now with my own family. But there are lots of other great places to visit!

Agree with previous posters: take the vacation you and your family want to take. The nice thing about going to Disney World is that you can split your trip up and do a few days there at the parks, maybe go to universal studios or go to Tampa for Busch gardens and beaches on the west side or go east to cape Canaveral and cocoa beach. It's just a couple hours at most to drive east or west. I for one won't feel pressure from non Disney people that we need to take a trip we don't really want to take just to keep up with the joneses. We like what we like and it happens to be Disney!

I think it's funny that we're so Disney-focused that the alternative options you got were other Orlando-area theme parks and also Disneyland.

The opportunity cost of a WDW trip is tremendous. You could take them to Europe for the price of a multi-day WDW trip, staying at the Beach Club. Or go to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

At that age, for mine, it was time to open them up to more varied vacation experiences. Just my take.

I like a good mix of trips and think it's a great way to appreciate disney more.

Of course if your on the fence, anaheim and disneyland are a way to see more of the world, explore that area of the country while getting some more disney into the mix.

Just a thought - I like to mix it up by alternating trips. Ex. Cruise, Disney, Caribbean, Disney, Washington DC, Disney. Sometimes our trips are a week, sometimes shorter. Sometimes we just stay local for a 3 or 4 day long weekend. This way we can still enjoy Disney but still enjoy other experiences too.

When I was a kid, my parents took my sister and I to Disney World every year, the week before Christmas. Our first trip was in 1988, and our last trip as a family was in 1994. The nice thing was that because they both worked in education, we also got to take summer trips to see the rest of the world (or at least the country) too. But even if we hadn't, I never would have tired of going to Disney World every year, because they found ways to make it interesting every year -- mixing in day trips to Universal, or even Busch Gardens in Tampa. I'd say as long as your kids aren't actively rebelling against the Disney Magic, keep providing it to them for as long as you can.

To me, yes, it's too many. It that's me. Our next trip this year will be our last for a while. DD is old enough now to appreciate travel beyond Disney and east coast road trips. We're cruising next summer (her 2nd), possibly Denver/boulder/Mount Rushmore after that, Ireland, and a Baltic cruise. Our travel for the next few years is well planned before she's too old to want to go with mom and dad.

We have gone once a year for the last 12+- years, so we will keep going as long as we enjoy it. DD is now 18, a college freshman and we will be there next week for her spring break. Side note we do other vacations, Universal, NYC, Savannah, New England, NC Mountains and a Bahamas cruise this summer... We try and keep the trips affordable to do more vacations.

what do your kids and your spouse think? That would be the thing that would sway my decision.

How about ABD. Do not love the product but many here do. Personally I would see the world and maybe go to somewhere exotic

Have you asked them what they think...? Hawaii is a great place to take kids too and they may have some great input on which trip if they had to pick ONE would be the most fun. :)
