should I panic and buy now?

While doing another fare check (every day whether I need it or not!) I noticed on the travelocity site "get the best fares from your city" that several airlines have SOLD OUT marked on our departure date, July 7. I never thought about it being the Sunday after July 4. Four of the airlines I checked had that date sold out.
I'm still getting a best price of $204 per person (5 of us) on the Delta site. On Expedia, Travelocity it's more like $216. I can get $216 out of Toledo with one stop, or a decent $216 out of Detroit nonstop with NW, but then we'd have to get a car up there or pay for park and fly, so it's not worth it.
So should I go for it now and save $60, or wait it out and see if things get better BUT possibly lose seats on departure day?(day is non-negotiable--ressies made).

I am facing a similar dilemma with flights for our Memorial Day week trip. I have been waiting for a good deal, but prices haven't budged except to go up. There is a semi-decent deal now, and I think I'm going to take it just to know that we will have our flights. If they go down, the peace of mind will still be worth it to me. As I write this, I also have an Orbitz search running because we are flying 4th of July weekend too and I didn't even start checking it yet! We have a lot less "squirm room" because we are usually taking the Disney cruise and have to arrive early (or the night before, flying out after work) in order to ensure that we'll make the ship.

I don't think $204 is so bad. I'm wondering if I should jump on $200/pp for our dates (in Dec.). We have been seeing such great rates lately but they seem to be creeping up - up - and away for now. If you need to leave on that particular day I would buy your tickets now. Sunday is a busy travel day!! If you are at all flexible wait it out and see what happens. Good luck!

You and I corresponded last year about our respective trips to WDW. I inquired as to your knowledge of Toledo Express and you graciously supplied information. While our trip ultimately didn't originate from Toledo due to the Comair strike, I appreciated your help.

If you, like us, are planning to depart from Toledo--check out the Delta site. We were able to get flights for $776 (and change) for the four of us departing Toledo with connections in Cincinnati on the departing leg and Atlanta on the return leg. There was a $10 per ticket discount for purchasing from Delta's website--something you are informed of only after you start the reservation process. We are flying earlier than you (June 14), but these rates were fairly consistent for the summer. Detroit's flights were much higher than Toledo's.

Give it a shot--it's worth a try anyway.

Hi Tess! The Delta site is where I'm getting the $204--nice to know it's really $214 and $2 cheaper than the deals on Expedia, not $12!
I bought from the Delta site for our December trip so I should have known that.
When did you get your deal? That is about $194 a person, right? That was their deal until the $10 per ticket went into efffect--I should have taken that!
Toledo is a great airport and it saves us $$ to have my dad drive us over and pick us up, so I really prefer it. We flew out of Detroit in December when I got my $135 per ticket deal--wish THOSE days were back!

...same thing happened to us...I panicked and bought the tickets, at the higher airfare. Our main problem is that our travel times are not flexible, as we have time-share. If it was me, I'd get the flights/times that you want. If it was my wife, she'd probably tell ya to wait.....

The original price on Delta was $204 and it was discounted by $10 for purchasing on the 'net. We bought our tickets in January (coincidentally when we decided to take this unexpected jaunt!) and sort of lucked into the rate. When I first started looking the prices were about $10 less than the $194. . .I didn't jump thinking the prices would come down. Instead, they went up and have continued to climb. We, like you (I caught your other post), thought about driving. In fact, my husband would still like to do so since he's a nervous flyer. Practicality wins out though--there's nothing better than having breakfast in MI and lunch in FL!

Detroit prices have been outrageous. I couldn't get anything (even Spirit) to come up for under $250. What a find you made at Christmas! Who knows, if you make up your mind to drive--then the pressure is off and chances are the rates will come down a bit when July approaches.

I am too much of a worry wart and tend to want all my ducks in a row as soon as my plans are firm. Hence, my quick (although $10 to late) purchase.

I'm counting down the days until Polynesian conc! I've seen your posts and that you, too, have found it a great place to stay! Best of luck on the hunt!

Hi Rock'n Robin & Tess,
I'm the other point in the triangle over here in Erie. Robin let me tell you that the closer you get to your flight date, normally, the higher the ticket price. We are going down next month( a postponed trip from last Sept.),so I've been tracking fares for a while. While we like to fly out of Detroit I have been watching Toledo prices too. After September prices skyrocketed and then fell we booked in December for 4 of us for $550 R/T on Delta out of metro, with a change in Atlanta. Then in the end of Jan. my oldest son said he could go with us,his flight is costing $300 R/T,different flight down but same flight back. I have been keeping an eye on them since and it has spiked over $ 800. Although now its back down to $ 650. To make a long story short $ 210. doesnt sound bad to me.
A note to Tess.........We're staying Poly. Conc. too. I'll let you know what to expect when you go.

While we typically fly to WDW and our other vacation destinations, I am by NO means an expert in the airline industry. I tend to rely upon information I receive from others more in the know than I. Sharing of information is an invaluable tool for me.

As to the Polynesian, on that subject I do feel more knowledgeable! We've stayed in the concierge service there on five different occasions. I will be very interested in hearing your take on the service, staff, accommodations, etc. One can never hear too many reports, positive and negative. Our experiences have all been very positive. Have a great trip.
