Should I or shouldn't I take the camera.

Have a four day business trip up to the Tacoma, Wa area. I'v never been there, and I'm wondering if I should pack the camera with just one lens (maybe the nifty). I doubt that I'll get out of the conference room much, and if there's anything to see on the way from the airport to Ft Lewis, I'll have to ask the driver the stop. I'd hate to miss a shot, but I'm also trying to pack light. WWYD?

I would do what you are saying. Pack the camera with a light lens just in case. You just never know. I am going to Georgia to visit my cousin in March and really don't have many expectations for taking photos (it is really a get away from it all trip) but am doing just that. I am bringing the camera with a couple small lenses for snapshot type pics just in case.

i'd take it but do you have a zoom lens? just thinking a prime would limit your ability somewhat since you really don't know what the situation would be or what type of shots might be available

Better to do and not take a picture than to not and wish you had!

Wow... you are going to be REALLY close to me!
If you are staying in Tacoma, there are some really nice photo opportunities, even at night. There is the UW Tacoma Campus right there downtown and then there is Union Station and the Museum of Glass. The Glass Museum has a ton of outdoor exhibits that are all lit at night. Very pretty and very popular to photograph. If you get down by the waterfront in Tacoma, there are tons of restaurants, parks and a long walking trail that goes right along the Puget Sound. Beautiful western views (and we're actually supposed to have a little sun this weekend/upcoming week... shocking, I know!!!) and it will provide some gorgeous sunset views with the Olympic mountains, the water and the islands around.

You won't find any 'picture-opportunities' from Sea-Tac Airport down towards Tacoma. It's just really highway the entire way; nothing exciting. Although, if it's sunny when you get in, you will have a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier as you drive.

If you are on base, I can't really give you much info, since I've never been on base, but I am shooting a wedding at the chapel there in June and I've heard that the chapel is amazingly beautiful!
