Should I make a room/building request for POP?

Our upcoming trip is our first stay at POP, so I don't know anything about the resort. My only friend that has stayed there doesn't remember what building they were in. I was about to do my online checkin:yay: and I didn't know what or if I should make a request. Since it's January and supposed to have low crowds, should I just take a chance that I would get an ok location? Or do I follow some preschool advice from my DD, "you get what you get and you don't get upset"?

Thanks for the input.:goodvibes

It depends. POP is pretty big, if you are staying preferred though you will be close to the main Hall and the buses no matter what building.

A tip I suggest is if walking isn't that big a deal choose the decade from your childhood (if you old enough to remember the earlier ones) ;)

This takes you back to your childhood and really gives a unique theme to your vacation. Nothing like being a child in WDW. :cool1:

For example I am a 70/80's kid so either would work, except the 80's aren't close to the hall or the buses, so I request the 70's area (preferred). That way I get to enjoy the nostalgia of "my" decade and cut down the walk.

Good luck, have a safe and happy trip!

We made a request. I prefer the top floor (I love children, I just don't like them running and dancing on my ceiling!). I also prefer lake view, it make for quieter room time when not facing the pool. We've always made these two requests and always been happy with the room we've been given.

Oh my! what a smart girl.

Best advice ever ...:thumbsup2

The Pop decade themes are strictly in the public areas around the buildings, so if you're in an 80s room, you aren't surrounded by Rubik's Cubes.

If it's slow they usually spread the guests out a bit to make it more quiet for guests and save wear and tear on the rooms.

You can make a request if you like but in my opinion, there are no bad locations.

I like your DD's advice, too. We've stayed at Pop a few times and never made a request for a particular area. For whatever reason, we've always been assigned to the 1950's and were perfectly happy there. We're going back in April, but the only AP discounted rooms available were "preferred." DD16's all upset because she now loves the 1950's and is afraid we won't be assigned there.

I think a lot of people who make special requests and then don't get exactly what they asked for are disappointed right out of the chute. I'm more of the "surprise us" type who will be happy wherever. (I'd note, however, that when staying at a Deluxe, I often will make a request because I know there are real differences in some of the floors, buildings, or rooms.)

She is smart, but she can't take credit for that one.:goodvibes Her teacher chimed that at her class all year.:teacher: I agree, that advice applies to your entire life, and should make you happier if you follow it.:flower3:

I think I'll just wing it with the room and hope for the best.:thumbsup2 We can always ask for a switch if it's a disaster.

Typically rooms are assigned 5 days in advance of your stay based on availability so I would make a simple request -like top floor , facing a pool or lake, and an area , like 60's or 70's. We've stayed here for the last 5 years and have stayed all over and have never been disappointed as long as we got a top floor. Pop is alot of fun and you will love it!:surfweb:

Assuming that you are flying and using Disney transportation during your stay, I'd recommend asking for one of the buildings close to the bus stop. Those would be buildings 1 & 3 (50s), 4 & 5 (60s), and 6 & 10 (70s).

People using their own vehicles to get around may prefer to be closer to parking lots and should ask for buildings 2 (50s), 7 & 8 (80s), and 9 (90s).

If you have a desire to see MK and Epcot fireworks outside your room, ask for the 4th floor, lakeside, in building 2, 3 or 4.
